Todos los ciudadanos de Chile, independientemente de la duración de su estadía, y todos los extranjeros que permanezcan en el país al menos 60 días consecutivos pueden tener que pagar el impuesto nacional sobre las ventas (19 %) al registrar la salida. Para obtener una exención de impuestos, los ciudadanos extranjeros deben, al ingresar, pagar su estadía en moneda extranjera (no en pesos chilenos) y presentar un pasaporte válido junto con la tarjeta de migración que recibieron al entrar en el país.
