I booked a last-minute night away for myself and my partner at the St. Lawrence Hotel using Booking.com. As soon as I’d paid, I realised I’d got the date of our stay wrong as we actually intended to be there the night before. Totally my fault, I admit. I requested to change the date using the Booking.com app, then set about ringing the hotel using the two numbers provided for it, both of which diverted as soon as they connected. I must have rung twenty times.
    I called Booking.com customer service who attempted unsuccessfully to contact the hotel on my behalf. No luck. I spent another couple of hours trying to contact the hotel before calling Booking.com again and explaining that I was feeling anxious now that we’d have nowhere to stay when we arrived in Worcester. This time they managed to contact the hotel, using a third number not publicly available on the listing for St. Lawrence, while I was on hold. The hotel, I was told, agreed to us changing the date.
    Next day my partner and I arrived in Worcester and took the twenty minute walk to the hotel. I noticed it looked dark and deserted inside. We rang the door. Nothing. Tried to call them. No answer. I called Booking.com to explain the situation; they made an attempt to contact the hotel and told me that, if they didn’t hear back from them in half an hour, they’d cancel the booking and find us somewhere else to stay. Half an hour later St Lawrence hadn’t contacted either of us so the very helpful agent at Booking.com set us up in another hotel, the lovely, comfortable Farrier’s Arms (highly recommended.) 
    Overall a disappointing experience and a waste of a considerable amount of our time. I don’t understand why, when Booking.com managed to get in touch with them, they agreed to change the date of our booking when they had no intention of being there to receive us. The hotel clearly hadn’t been open for some time. What did they expect to happen?

Hotel was deserted

I can recommend this hotel for very friendly staff and good facilities.  Location was excellent to access Cheltenham by train and the city centre. Rooms were clean, well decorated and furnished. En-suite bathroom with shower, tv and tea and coffee facilities. Would recommend this hotel.

Great location

A fairly decent hotel with good facilities, but the cooked breakfast was incredibly disapointing, and was comparable to a child's portion.

1 rasher of bacon
1 standard sized sausage
I overcooked egg
1 singular small button mushroom (I kid you not!)
1 desert spoon of beans (so small I could count them, 18 in total!)
I paid £80 for the night, and would have expected more.
I would have pointed it out at the time, but no-one came around to check if the meal was ok, and no-one at reception when I checked out!

Decent hotel, but child's breakfast!

After two comfortalbe and enjoyable stays here I can thoroughly recommend the St Lawrence for thw price . Both rooms we have had have been freshly decorated and furnished with new carpets . The breakfast is good , smallish cooked english plus a large choice of cerials , yoghurts , and much toast as you want , fresh orange or apple juice plus tea or coffee. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the city centre and the beautiful cathederal and river walk.

Great location and enjoyed two stays here.

The St Lawrence is in a good location just 10 mins walk from the cathedral and town centre. Rooms are very clean and staff very friendly. Our room seemed to have a smaller-than-average size "double" bed which made it difficult to sleep, especially as a very heavy quilt was supplied which made it far too hot to sleep, and removing this made it too cold! Also the bathroom door squeaked loudly which didn't help. The only other negative was the breakfast, just a choice of cereal and toast. Nothing cooked and certainty not "a very good breakfast" as advertised. It seems a shame to go on about these negatives as everything else was fine, and we would stop again, but would ask if possible for a proper double and a lighter bed- covering.

Good location poor breakfast!

First visit

I had a really comfortable night here! The room was clean and had the basic tea/coffee station! Breakfast was lovely! Staff were really friendly and so helpful! Traffic is busy but about a 25 min walk to town! 

Comfortable stay

St Lawrence Hotel is an adapted red-brick villa just fifteen minutes walk from the centre of Norwich (less if you hurry) and about twenty-five minutes walk from Worcester Fore Gate station.  If you drive there is a car park but I should think parking could get tight.  The hotel is welcoming and well managed and offers excellent value for money.  My room (8) was a small double that was fine for one but probably too small for two or for an extended stay of more than two nights.  For furniture there were two bedside tables, a chest of drawers and a built in wardrobe but no chair or a desk on which to write or use a laptop.  The bathroom was large but dimly lit (as is all too often the case) and with no light around the mirror.  However, the bathroom tiling was fresh and clean and the fittings seemed fairly new.  Whilst the shower tray was disappointingly small for such a large room the towels were excellent.  Tea and coffee making equipment provided.

Downstairs there is a comfortable seating area with tea and coffee always available from a high quality bean-to-cup machine, which is also used for making the breakfast drinks.  The breakfast buffet was disappointing in not having fresh fruit but otherwise breakfast was very good for a hotel at this price.

I thought my stay would have been much improved by a few easy wins from the hotel.  For instance, only one of the bedside tables had a light (and of course it was not the side I wanted to use), the bedroom had no wastepaper basket, the wardrobe had those ghastly security coat hangers and the large bathroom no table or chair on which to put clothes or even a washbag - and no toilet brush! There was also some chipped paint around the door frame, which spoiled the effect of an otherwise clean and presentable room.

My only complaint is that in Room 8, with the window open, in the morning I could smell breakfast cooking. I would therefore suggest avoiding this room.

A welcoming, well managed, reasonably priced hotel near the centre of Worcester.

My wife and I enjoyed our stay, the room was fine and the breakfast was decent. My only complain was that we were positioned above the kitchen, so had cooking smells and extractor fans to deal with in the morning.
This is an inexpensive hotel and represents good value for money, we will return.

Cheap and cheerful

The hotel was well located, very clean with comfortable beds and reasonable breakfast but very little parking.  Sadly our stay was ruined by significant  administrative errors.  We had booked and paid for 2 double rooms, one month in advance but on our arrival the bookings could not be found.  The receptionist found us 2 twin rooms instead.  We then went out for the evening for a family meal to celebrate my birthday.  Half way through the meal I received a call from the hotel saying that we hadn't paid our bill and rudely said she would give us until 9pm to return and pay!  Assuming the original payment hadn't gone through we cut short our celebrations to return and pay (again!).  On our return home I checked with my bank and found that payment had indeed been taken from our account twice.  I rang the hotel but they said they couldn't see previous month's payments and said "they would not take my word for it" so I would have to produce and email a copy of my bank statement before I could be refunded!  Only then I received the refund back into my account.  Other more minor complaints were no cups in the room, no hairdryer, very small shower. But what a shame that an otherwise pleasant hotel was spoiled by such shambolic administration and rude staff.  We witnessed two other sets of very upset guests having similar experiences whilst we were there.  Nightmare experience, ruined my birthday!
