Arrived for a one night stay and was extremely disappointed - the outside of the pub is almost derelict looking and unkempt - not welcoming at all and wouldn’t cost much to clean up and smarten for future business.
Once inside felt extremely uncomfortable so much so that we decided not to continue with the stay despite having paid. This was meant to be a special night for my son and me to share some time together but the whole place was dated and without atmosphere- definately not a welcoming country pub at all…. Extremely disappointed

Disappointing

When I got here the pub was actually closed - but it was pouring with rain and my train was cancelled so I have a 3 hour wait here. They kindly opened up and sat me down in front of the fire and offered me a cup of tea - it’s a home away from home and I couldn’t be more grateful.

Very comfortable, super clean & warm room. Just what you need after hiking in the Dales. The staff were professional & couldn’t do enough for you. Perfect overnight stop over. Only, we didn’t stay at The Boars Head! We stayed at a Premier Inn 10 miles down the road. Why? Because when we turned up to check in at the specified time, the owners couldn’t be bothered to answer the door or their phone, leaving us stood out in the cold for ages wondering what the hell we were going to do. Luckily Booking.com were quick to offer us a relocation, can’t fault their service at all 

Probably just as well that it worked out this way, If the indoors of The Boars Head is anything like the outside, god help anyone that stays there

Expect the unexpected

Stayed overnight in a large room that was warm cosy and had an extremely comfortable bed.
The food  for the evening meal was absolutely delicious as was the cooked breakfast the following day, The staff were friendly and made sure you had everything you needed.
The only downside was the building needed a lot of work, but that did not spoil the time we spent there. 

Delicious food. 

I booked this hotel as a treat for my mother in law and her husband as we wanted to treat them to a night away for helping us over the last few months. The day afterwards she came home and she said they were extremely disappointed but she didn’t want to sound ungrateful. Her description was… On pulling up in the car park the place looked permanently closed, it was really run down and scruffy but we thought it looked nice on the website so it will be ok inside.  As soon as we went in, it had an awful smell of foist and dirtyness.  We were taken to our room and on entering a strong smell of an air freshener  which I suppose was trying to mask the smell which made us feel a bit queasy. To be fair the room was clean just really run down which we thought it wouldn't have taken alot to spruce it up for example cleaning the mold from the windows filling holes in walls and ceiling.  It felt cold in the room even with radiator on ( just about warm). When we went down into the bar to have our evening meal the open fires looked nice but the rest of it was scruffy like bar stools needing recovering and just very tired looking everywhere.  We had our meal then went back to room to get into bed to get warm. Breakfast time we were looking forward to a full English but was very oily so didn't eat it all. All in all it was a let down as you'd treated us to this . Not like the website pictures which as I said looked very nice.

Total let down..

I have to be honest, no point in reviewing if you aren't! We didn't read reviews on here before going, perhaps wouldn't have gone, had we. That would have been a shame. Yes, our room was a little tired, but clean, warm & the bed was very cosy. Slept well & soundly for 10 hours! The Public bar was lovely, huge roaring log fire, friendly locals & fellow guests, local beers. They made our dog, Pip, very welcome. I would recommend that you order meals from the set menu, they are enormous & gorgeous! The inclusive full english breakfast was also wonderful, so tasty! I came away feeling that everyone there tried hard to look after us, they succeeded. Some memorable moments. Times are tough for local pubs, a lot of people expect the Ritz!

Honest Review

We stayed here in October for 2 nights, a party of two couples.  On checking in we were a little concerned as the decor was very dated and we thought the pub in general was quite run down.  However, our room was very clean, the en-suite was tiny but functional.  My sister's room was large with what looked like a very modern shower, but unfortunately they had problems with the shower, which the landlord was unable to rectify, so they had to make do with the bath.

However, we all agreed that the food in the pub was excellent, in fact we did eat there for the two nights and it was very enjoyable and reasonably priced.  Breakfast was also excellent and the staff were very friendly and efficient.  This is a popular local pub, which was obviously well frequented by the local people.

Food good - rooms not so much!

This is a great pub in Long Preston with plenty of flowers to decorate the outside. Inside the rooms are well presented just right for that short or longer stay. Food is served in the bar in the evening and is good quality and value. Breakfast met expectations too giving you a good start to the day.

Great pub with food and accomadation

Absolutely dreadful experience.  Arrived to find a very down at heel looking building.  The door was opened by a guy who we presume was the manager wearing a filthy T shirt and jogging bottoms. Whole bar area smelt damp. Shown to our room which was a total joke. Beds looked well past their best and towels provided looked old and if they needed a good clean. I opened the wardrobe door to find one wire coat hanger and a broken plastic one. "Bathroom " had a door on a runner which got stuck and whole thing felt totally run down. Filthy coffee cups. We returned to Settle and spent the afternoon frantically looking for somewhere else to stay and fortunately found a great guest house for that night. £130 down the drain for booking the Boars Head and cost us an additional £80 to book alternative accommodation,  but there was no way we were staying, let alone eating anything. 

Dreadful 

Stayed one night to break our journey home. Good pint of Black Sheep. I ordered egg and chips which was not on the menu and they were happy to cook it for me. Breakfast had to be ordered the night before and then we had to ask again in the morning - something not joined up here! Waitress serving breakfast was delightful and chatty - she should be on duty in the evening when the staff were a bit 'flat'. A new and original way of wearing face masks which I am not sure is effective.
