What a lovely hour or two we all had this weekend in the beautiful bar, chatting away with the lovely, friendly, interesting owners. Not only are they really welcoming, charming, funny and pull a lovely pint, but they were so into music and played us loads of brilliant tracks, gave me some new tunes to listen to. Brilliant start to our evening. By the way, the owner knows John Robb 😂🤭😉😁 Thank you, folks! Best, the Guardian Readers 😃

Lovely time

Where do we start? After a bad experience with a booking the previous evening, we were lucky there was a cancellation at The Silk House. From the moment we pulled up outside the hotel Nicholas was warm and welcoming. 
Check in was seamless and we had drinks in our hotel room which was clean and comfortable.
Before we went for dinner we had drinks in the bar, the owners recommended places to eat and drink and even offered to cook some food if we were unable to find a table as we didn’t have a reservation anywhere.
The morning after we were offered complimentary fresh coffee and a friendly chat. 
We wouldn’t hesitate to return and only wish we had spent the whole weekend there.

Lovely little gem

Beautiful period hotel that smells clean and fresh throughout. Lovely room with a comfortable bad and great pillows. Huge bathroom with double sinks, freestanding bath and a gorgeous original stained glass window. Attention to detail is amazing throughout the hotel.  Public bar is small but homely and the team and patrons made us feel so welcome, coming to sit and chat with us. Service was faultless and even warmed my brandy glass perfectly. Continental breakfast was freshly baked croissants, pain au chocolat, and baguettes with a good selection of jams etc. Freshly made coffee , fresh juices and large pot of tea. Cannot recommend enough

Friendly, comfortable and very clean. Attention to detail top notch

Very friendly and welcoming hosts, offered free late checkout which was much appreciated. 
Location is great, right in the centre of the town. Plenty of restaurants nearby, several paid car parks and short drive to walks in the Peak District. 
We did feel however it’s hugely overpriced for the very tired state of the room. £116 we paid for a Saturday night, no breakfast included. The room is very old and had a musty smell, the bathroom also extremely dated with watery refilled shower gel offered. The AC didn’t work and the street was too noisy to open the window. There was also dirt and crumbs left on both bedside tables, stains on the sheets and throw which was pretty off putting. 
Overall so much potential here to be amazing but it needs a big refurb to get it there.

Very tired

A clean, comfortable, and convenient hotel right in the town centre.  Very quiet and plenty of free on-street parking just around the corner.  Modernised facilities in an historic building.

Georgian splendour

Fabulous boutique hotel in a characterful Georgian listed building. Room resplendent in shabby chic style with all amenities. Great bar and garden. Served excellent continental breakfast ( not included). I was on a cycling weekend and the owner Nicholas couldn’t have been more helpful to store my bike in secure room accessible through a side entrance. Leek is a lovely town ideally positioned for access to the Peak District. Highly recommended !

Characterful boutique hotel

Lovely stay, clean,comfortable, and was greeted by the host who was great and very welcoming. Would recommend The Silk House definitely.

We only booked this hotel because it was advertised as having ‘parking available’ but it was general street parking - there was no designated parking which is obviously what we expected. There was no bedside cabinet on one side - so no lamp, and no way to turn out the light except to get out of bed. The table lamp we did have was very cheap looking and flickered. There was no mirror in the room - only in the bathroom and that misted up after our bath. The Jacuzzi bath was good, if a little noisy. Water pressure wasn’t great. Our room faced the road so lots of traffic noise for most of the night. Host was welcoming and polite.
