We have just finished our weekend stay at shawgate farm. We had the best time, we were greeted by James and we were told where the local pub was and the nearest village. We still got list! We also met Nina, who is just so lovely , both of them very very polite. 
The room was clean tidy and the beds were comfy. The breakfast was lovely and very accommodating as I have a milk intolerant and they were able to offer me soya milk. The staff were very polite and the locals were fab and chatty. Will definitely be back xx

Family weekend

Really nice farm based B&B. Located just off a track behind the village church, the location is rural but perfect for a base for Alton Towers about 15 minutes drive away. The accommodation is in an annex to the main farmhouse with 4 or 5 separate ensuite rooms. Very comfortable and simply apportioned accommodation on the 1st floor, accessed by stairs. Excellent view of the countryside from our room and the location ensured it was very peaceful and quiet. 

We were welcomed by the landlady, Nina, who was extremely friendly and helpful. Clearly she is motivated to ensure her guests are well looked after. She also prepares an excellent farmhouse cooked breakfast with top quality ingredients. The local pub (Fox and Goose) is a few minutes walk away and recommended for an evening meal (book ahead!) or a cold beer in the beer garden.

Would definitely return to this B&B when next in the area.

Rural and comfortable

Spent a wonderful night with partner and 3 kids here during a weekend visit to Alton Towers, we couldn't have asked for better service, with a warm friendly welcome, nothing was too much trouble. The room was a very good size, the location and views were wonderfully scenic, and the parking very easy. Breakfast was also served with a smile, and came out hot and freshly cooked. We will definitely stay here again if we make a return visit to the area. Thoroughly recommend a visit!

Superb service, wonderful stay

What a treat!! We were visiting Alton Towers and wanted somewhere rural for my farm obsessed toddler. Nina messaged before we arrived and answered every question I had. As we pulled into the large driveway we had beautiful views and saw lots of sheep. Nina came straight out to introduce herself. The key is in it’s own key safe which is very clean. The room was great! Spacious, clean & comfortable. The beds were extremely comfy and the 3 of us slept brilliantly. Tv was fine. Kettle with tea/coffee was in the room. Nicely heated with a fan in the wardrobe if you needed/wanted it. Windows had a restriction on opening which was great with a curious toddler. Because of Covid, breakfast was unfortunately a take away bag in our room. However, the breakfast was great. Sausage/bacon sandwich, fruit, yogurts, cereal bar, orange juice, fresh tea & coffee. All in all I think this converted barn b&b is fantastic. We will definitely be returning..... 

Fabulous little hidden gem

We had a lovely stay here after a long day at Alton Towers. The guesthouse is a short drive from the park so ideal for this purpose. 

Nina at the guesthouse made sure we were fully aware ahead of our stay of the Covid19 precautions that had been put in place. 

The room and bathroom were a great size with good facilities. Due to Covid19 breakfast was a bacon sandwich, fruit and yogurt delivered safely to the room

We booked this lovely B&B via booking.com. I cannot fault anything about it. Very friendly host (Nina) who communicated prior to stay and informed us that breakfast would be a bit different due to COVID-19 restrictions. However she was very accommodating & the breakfast was lovely! We had bacon sandwiches, fruit, cereal bars & yoghurt with tea & coffee. My 3 year old daughter was happy with cereal and toast. This was all brought to your room at a set time. Lovely breakfast bearing in mind the circumstances. Lovely big family room with big bathroom and fresh towels. Parking on site and so close to Alton Towers (10 mins away). Highly recommend this lovely clean B&B. I cannot understand the review prior to mine at all. Nina was very accommodating, I think some people just like giving negative reviews. We would defo come back again if visiting Alton Towers! A++++++

Fab B&B and close to Alton Towers

We arrived late and the family room looked good with bunk beds, double bed and single bed.  The bathroom was big but no bath.  
When we were in bed ready to sleep we discovered that the bunk beds squeaked with the slightest movement meaning that we got very little sleep.  My poor grandson was scared to turn over as he was aware of the noise.
When the breakfast box was delivered I tried to catch the owner and called after her but she disappeared quickly.  I decided to phone her later for help with the bunk bed.
The breakfast box was truly appalling:  two slices of brown bread with a small amount of bacon or sausage, small, cheap juice cartons, a brown banana and a health bar.  None of us were impressed
We headed for Alton Towers and had a wonderful day. Throughout the day I attempted to contact the owner by phone and email but she did not reply.  I explained our issue with the bunk beds hoping that they just needed tightened........no reply.
We decided not to stay for the second night as there was no chance of sleeping and an awful breakfast the following day.  
Our drive home was 2 hours and after a day out we were exhausted and really needed an early night.  Mini holiday ruined.
Another issue is the drive to this guest house.  It is a mainly one track road for 2 miles and on one occasion I had to reverse about half a mile to let a large vehicle pass.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE NO RECENT REVIEWS OF THIS PROPERTY.  THIS IS AN HONEST REPORT.  I WAS SO ANNOYED BY THE LACK OF RESPONSE AND CARE FROM THIS OWNER THAT I CONTACTED THE CEO OF BOOKING.COM!

Worst accommodation EVER!

What can i say... this place is situated back set away from any traffic. It is a 5 min walk away from great pubs -Fox and Goose and 5 min drive from Hettys tea shop. The owner is a great host. A warm welcome awaited us and continued throughout the weekend. The room and place in whole was clean. The room was serviced daily which i was not expecting. The breakfast was freshly cooked with locally sourced produce. Highly recommended if ur looking for a break away from the hustle and bustle of life. 
Would return in a heartbeat!      

A little gem of a place perfectly located

Stayed here for the Real Ale Train on the churnet valley which is a short taxi ride away. Accommodation was excellent- bedroom was large enough with a comfortable 4 poster bed and superb views. The room was well equipped with tea/coffee making facilities. Bathroom was large and clean. Breakfast was v nice and service was spot on. Hosts were very nice and would recommend.

Superb

Was welcomed immediately on arrival and shown to our room. The room was a great size, huge four poster bed and a large en suite. Yes the decor is a little out of date but it is in keeping with the building, and the place was spotless. We were told to go to the local pub for tea (Fox and Goose) it was great. Bed was comfy, breakfast was lovely. Will come here again next time we visit the area, we went to Alton Towers this time, and it was only 10-15 min drive.
