I visited here with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary, we were very impressed with the exterior as we arrived, the B&B is beautiful from the outside, but we were even more impressed with the inside! The interior is a nice mix between modern and a classic cottage feel, Jane and Garry were so welcoming and friendly, offering us tea on arrival and a map and clear recommendations of places to eat for dinner. We were showed to our room which was also beautiful, the brick and beam detailing in our room was especially eye catching! I loved the little touches around the room which really makes a difference such as the jar of biscuits, chocolate eclair sweets and hot chocolate included on our drinks table- my favourite touch being FRESH MILK for our tea!!! One thing I struggle with at hotels and B&Bs is drinking UHT milk and always wish for fresh, Jane and Garry went beyond what was expected and provided a cool flask of milk, which instantly put a smile on my face!! The facilities were lovely, all the details were perfect and the hosts were faultless. Let's not forget the breakfast! Lots of choice, hot breakfast cooked to perfection and continental options too; we purchased a jar of homemade honey too, which was from the bees on site and we learned a lot about honey and bees at the same time!

Homely, warm and welcoming!

Would recommend Old Pear Tree as they are a first class 5 star B&B.   Stayed on the 4th December with my sisters and brother - all of us pensioners - the food was excellent.  The rooms were exceptionally comfortable and clean.  We were welcomed with refreshments which were most welcome after our trip down from the West Midlands.    You can book this B&B with confidence - you will not be disappointed.

Old Pear Tree Bury St Edmunds

We stayed here for 4 nights and it was a great place to base ourselves to visit the many attractions around the district. It was nice to come back after a day’s sightseeing to relax and unwind in a lovely setting. Jane and Garry were very friendly hosts with extensive knowledge about the local area including great places to eat and/or where to go for a lovely afternoon tea. The lovely, fresh and tasty continental and cooked breakfasts were a great start to the day. Unfortunately, with the weather at this time of the year, we couldn’t take advantage of their lovely garden setting or see their bee hives.  But this certainly didn't detract from our stay. Maybe next time.

A delightful welcoming B&B

The Old Pear Tree is a quaint and beautiful home in the Suffolk countryside. Our hosts were Jane and Garry, a very inviting couple who have extensive knowledge (do tap into it!) of the surrounding area as well as great stories from their trips abroad. We felt right at home.

Their property is directly adjacent to a sheep farm. I was told they and guests were able to watch sheep being born last spring from their bedrooms. 

They have only been doing this for four years, but I was very impressed. All of the rooms are beautifully decorated (we were the only ones there, so I took a sneak peak at the other bedrooms) and have all of the modern amenities you could ask for. There are robes and a nice spread of tea, coffee, biscuits, and fresh milk in each quarter.

The common room is right off the family-style breakfast table and has piles of books and information pamphlets on the area with a cozy fireplace at its center.

Jane is a beekeeper and sells her honey on site. If it is warm enough, you may hear or see evidence of them. They are polite English bees, I'd imagine, and keep to themselves of course!

The only downside to this lovely property is that it is directly off of the A-road. I did not find the noise very troublesome, as it is a relatively quiet A-road, but it is there and our GPS did not map to the property very easily. We overshot it by about 1/4 mile. Just keep an eye out just off the road.

Wonderful Hosts in a Beautiful Setting

Sadly just a one night stay in this lovely bed & breakfast. 
Warm welcome from the hosts on arrival with tea and the must delicious home made cake. Room exceptionally clean , comfortable and everything that you could possible need. 
Jane & Gerry are the most perfect hosts and it’s all the little extras that make this wonderful find the most perfect B & B. 

If you enjoy the finer things in life then this is the place for you.

Clean and tidy, comfortable bed, excellent service, free parking, hosts with great local information and honey made on the premises.
What more could you want!!

Wonderful hospitality, great little find

We stayed here as we needed a base to explore the surrounding area and to visit the Duxford Airshow. It was in an excellent location as being on the A143 it was easy to set off on days out. The hosts were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble for them - even breakfast at 6.15am wasn't a problem. The room was lovely and a wonderful selection of things to eat at breakfast. We would have no hesitation in recommending ths accommmodation.

Excellent B&B

We stayed 3 nights at the Old Pear Tree and found it a great base for exploring the area.  Our room was perfect, with a very comfortable bed, lovely period decoration, spacious en suite (with great shower), and cookies for an evening snack.  Wifi was fast.  

Breakfast was always a treat, abundant and tasty.  The hosts are very interesting people.  They went out of their way to introduce us to their bee keeping practice, which was an unexpected highlight of our time in England.

We would love to stay here again and recommend it highly.

Deserves 6 Stars

The room was excellent, traditional wooden beams lovely and warm on a cold winter weekend. We were greeted with a warm friendly welcoming tea or coffee and cakes on arrival, the location is only a few miles from the centre of Bury St Edmunds set in the country side, ample parking. Our breakfast was excellent and freshly prepared all the usual choices of fresh fruit, croissants, cereal, toast and a full traditional English breakfast cooked to an high standard. Great place to stay it felt like we were staying with friends for a weekend.

Something special

After a couple of bad experiences staying in Bury St Edmunds  we decided to try somewhere new, and with this being the Christmas weekend choice is limited and cost is ridiculous. So we decided to go a little further out of town and although I had got use to parking the car and leaving it all weekend it turned out to be the best thing we could have done.
This place is a delight and Garry and Jane are brilliant they cannot do enough for you. For us it's the little things  like fresh milk in the room freshly cooked breakfast of our choices in the morning. The room along with all the rooms we went into were clean and well appointed, the bed was comfee and the shower was powerful with a constant temperature . And the location was a delight which maybe is the only negative in the whole review, the direction given were maybe not as clear as they could have been and it wasn't just us being idiots ,Garry told us a story of two separate couples who got lost at the same time. But this is a small thing and overall you can't go wrong here.

So Nice

This is a unique little b&b with a warm welcome. Room spotlessy clean and tastefully decorated with nice little extras. Hosts were very welcoming and happy to advise on places to eat. We went for the White Horse which was excellent. Lovely breakfast with yogurt and fruit etc, plus cooked breakfast, croissants and toast. Enjoyed our night here...were only sad that we had not booked for longer. A little treasure!
