We have stayed in Dittisham many times , but this was our first ( but not last visit ) to Downton Lodge . We opted for the self catering barn , as we are always too tired to go out for dinner  the evenings , and like the option of preparing something light , at our base . Upon arrival , we were greeted by Andrew and Martin , who were very welcoming . They gave us a guided tour , and answered any questions we had . They could not have been more welcoming . The barn was outstanding , beautifully decorated to a high standard and everything included that you might need , eg: umbrellas , scrabble & even a fly zapper ( which we didn’t need ) . The best thing about the barn , was the far reaching views from every window , the pristine lawn and all the beautiful flowers . Their’ was the garden that I can only dream of having . Thank you for opening up your beautiful piece of Heaven , it was a joy to visit and hopefully we will see you again .

Heaven in Devon

Andrew and Martin are very friendly and helpful. The freshly cooked breakfast was exceptional. Our room was clean, bright and tastefully furnished. The balcony looked out over the garden to the countryside beyond. Staying at Downton Lodge gave us a delightful and peaceful rural location while being only a short drive, walk or ferry boat from the tourist attractions in the area.

Highly Recommend

What a lovely place!  We have just spent a week at Downton and everything was just about perfect.  We had quite a big, pretty room with a good bathroom in a lovely big house set in glorious rolling Devonshire farmland.   Andrew and Martin are very good and attentive hosts and the breakfasts are excellent.  Dartmouth is less than a 15 minute drive away and there is plenty to see and enjoy in this lovely part of Devon.
All in all it would be very hard to improve on Downton Lodge.   So what are you waiting for?

The perfect base for a holiday

This place is s little heaven on earth, from the warm & inviting greeting on arriving from Martin, the information & our question he answered, definitely a seasoned host. The property  is outstanding if you like, interesting, homely, quaint, gorgeous, room was a generous size, plenty of storage space, plus our empty luggage fitted under the bed. The bed, so comfortable slept really well, the feeling, the decor, the view, the cleanliness, the trinkets, all superb. Tea & coffee is on a shared landing outside the bedrooms, again so homely so inviting, an amazing idea executed to perfection. Don't do evening meal currently, breakfast perfect, full choice whatever you want, all freshly prepared by Andrew our second host, (with a little help from Martin), views over the garden & beyond beautiful. nothing is too much trouble for these guys, chatty, entertaining, informative without being to forward, outstanding hosts. Beautiful property too, in the rain or sunshine. Plenty of places around abouts to see, eat, stroll, visit, some of the roads around a little challenging, found reverse gear quite useful on a couple of occasions, plenty of passing places though. An ideal B &B in an idea location. Never said this about a B&B before, we will be coming back, usually have never repeat stayed in a B&B before, this place is the exception. Thank you so so much Martin & Andrew for being the icing on the end of our holiday tour.

A Wonderful warm welcome to the lodge from Andrew and Martin. The lodge is in an excellent location for walking and driving too, with a few of Dartmouth’s hill tops . The lodge looks as if it just been decorated as it is spotless . The whole place and gardens are all well maintained . Greeted every morning with a great choice of breakfast. Exceptional place to stay

The best experience! Location is magic,  high above the River Dart and away from the bustle of Dartmouth - in a dark skies area.  Super peaceful.  Mark and Andrew have made a beautifully appointed house,  full of interesting and personal items.  VERY comfortable room,  excellent bed/pillows/shower.  And above all the welcome from Andrew was warm and caring, providing details such as spring water and ice cubes and then being very flexible for breakfast for an early start on a sunday.  In fact the breakfast was e delicious English special.  Lovely also to chat about the story which took them to Downton.  DEFINITELY will come back for more.  Natalie Wheen

The best experience.

Downton Lodge is a beautiful place to stay at , it was a only a 3 night stay for part of my wifes 60th celebration . Andrew & Martin were perfect hosts nothing was too much  trouble , the breakfast was superb and the surroundings were beautiful , the property is in a beautiful part of Devon , secluded but only 10 mins from Dartmouth . The room was great and very clean and comfortable , my wife and i will be going back again and using it as a base to explore the area more. 

Excellent b&b 

Just returned from an excellent 5 night stay here.
Andrew and Martin were wonderful hosts, very welcoming and helpful.
The rooms were spotless and complete with balconies overlooking the stunning garden and fields.
Breakfast cooked by Andrew was perfect.
The property is in a quiet location but with easy access to Dittisham and Dartmouth.
Thank you for a memorable few days.


Wonderful property

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at Downton Lodge.  Our room was tastefully decorated, clean and comfortable with a lovely balcony to sit and admire the stunning view.  Andrew and Martin are the perfect hosts and a delicious breakfast was served in a lovely conservatory overlooking the garden.

Tranquil countryside setting with views over green fields to the sea

We stayed in the ground floor garden room bed and breakfast from the 7th-10th September. On arrival we were shown to our delightful room and a pot of tea and biscuits was brought to us which we enjoyed in our private court yard garden. The  room was very nicely furnished with ample storage and a king sized bed and a wet room ensuite, despite the heat wave it was easy to keep the room cool. The breakfast was full waiter service for all course, which is very rare these days, with Andrew and Martin demonstrating  their many  skills.
