Had a lunchtime meal at this friendly pub. The food was excellent and really good value for money. Large portions, certainly didn't need the chips, although they were excellent. I would have no hesitation staying there if staying in Ashbourne. 

Excellent lunchtime meal

We stayed for the night with our dog and were made really welcome, and the room was very comfortable. On the back of that visit, and as we only live 20mins away, we keep coming back for their food and drink. The food is great, and the Sunday roast we had the other week was insane! Loads of lovely food. We’ve also been really impressed by the staff, who have proved themselves to be a lovely bunch, extremely polite and attentive. See you again soon!

Definitely worth a visit

After a long walk at Milldale, we stopped off at The George & Dragon for a late Sunday lunch. We were just in time as they’d very nearly stopped serving food, so ordered two pints of cider, a roast beef dinner & a beetroot wellington. We were then waiting quite a while, so my partner went up to enquire about the order. Unfortunately our order had been misplaced, which they apologised for, & consequently gave us two further pints & a starter free of charge! What a pleasant surprise! Most places would just apologise & try to get your order out quickly, but the landlady at The George went above & beyond to rectify their error & when our mains did arrive, the food was absolutely delicious. I can’t recommend this pub highly enough. Customer service & quality of food were 10 out of 10, even with the delay. Other pubs should take note!

5 star customer service

We only ate at this hotel - didn't stay overnight but if the service in the bar was anything to go by I would definitely stay if I needed to.  The location overlooking the market square is really convenient.

We didn’t stay here, just came in at random for an evening meal. Good decision- very friendly and comfortable bar, good beer and really excellent fish and chips.  Nice that all the ingredients are sourced from Ashbourne’s excellent local food shops.

Very friendly and excellent food

Had a lovely evening meal here as a family of 4.
Good selection of homemade food on the menu.
We had the chicken balti from the specials, tagliatelle carbonara, macaroni cheese and childrens chicken goujons. All the food was lovely, and good portions, adult meals were about £12-13 each. Reslly cosy atmosphere inside with candlelit tables.

All the staff were  really lovely and very friendly when my 8 year old knocked a big glass of pop over!

Definitely worth a visit if your in Ashbourne town centre.

Lovely little pub

My husband and I visited here recently and had the Sunday lunch- lamb and beef. Both were which absolutely delicious. Staff were friendly and the pub had a nice atmosphere. Visited again later in the week and again, the food was lovely. The pub is dog friendly.

Great Sunday lunch

Friendly staff good atmosphere and excellent food. We stayed for one night and the room was clean and comfortable. The pub is in an excellent position amongst other bars , cafes and shops . A very pleasant stay and if we are ever in the area I would look to stay here again

Worth a stay

Booked up at very short notice as let down by other accommodation. 
Staff extremely helpful with sorting out a room for us and our two small dogs. Food and drink reasonably priced and great choice. Steak and ale pie was exceptional. Very dog friendly with free dog biscuits. Would definitely recommend to dog lovers looking for a welcoming pub that is central in Ashbourne. 
Would definitely stay and eat here again.

Very dog friendly and very helpful staff

We booked this venue for a friday night meal for some of the guests going to our sons wedding on the Saturday. We booked a table of 31 which is a large table for a venue of this size.

The staff were brilliant! When we arrived our table had been decorated and were well prepared. We had given them forward visability of our menu choices and when the food came out everything was correct, fresh & hot and the meals were supurb.

The pub really went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and give our special weekend the start it deserved and i cant speak highly enough of their efforts. I would highly recommend a visit.
