The place is lovely. The mansion, built in 1930's looks impressive and welcoming. There is a little lovely China Park nearby. Located in a valley the Park offers its visitors great atmosphere, silence and a feeling of Orient. The Park is not big but there is a lot of places where the visitor can just sit, rest, observe and enjoy. Recommended!!

I stayed one night at Bastedalen on a motorcycle trip together with two of my friends. We were the only guests for the night and we had a very good stay with good food and excellent service. Do not expect everything to be 5-star. The cottages you live in are old and offer tons of charm, with the odd thing missing or not totally perfect. the Chinese garden is well worth a visit, but we were surprised to find the entrance fee on our bill as we did not ask to see it, but was instead taken to it by one of the staff.

A very charming small manor with little cottages with guest rooms in in the garden. Lovely rooms and a beautiful garden with a nice atomosphere and extra thought to the details. Beautiful surroundings with a nice walk down to the lake where you can go swimming in the summer. Quiet. 
Very friendly staff and owner. Really good breakfast and dinner. A bit worn bathroom and somewhat expensive dinner menu. Otherwise perfect for a weekend getaway. My warmest recommendations. 
We didn't have a chance to see the bespoken Chinese garden, so we definitely have to come back !
