Excelent location... very quiet impressively clean tidy room... towels soap shampoo even sweetie...fantastic value and Santi was a very welcoming host who looked after my rucksack the day before and after my stay.... highly recommended

Great value for money hotel in centre of Madrid

Choose this place for an overnight stay based on the location and reviews...I have to say that it has been a bit disappointing. The bed was terrible...so uncomfortable...my husband was coming after a long journey and he needed to rest...but it was impossible to do so.
The girl on reception was very nice and helpful, she explained me how to get to the center and all the nearby attractions.
The room itself was a bit too basic, and the bathroom extremely small...to go to the toilet, you had to put your feet inside the bath (shower tray)!
Overpriced for what you get!

A bit too basic

The room was spotless and was cleaned daily. Sylvia was an awesome host. I’d definitely stay here again. The neighborhood is wonderful! It is in the Las Letras, or Literary, district, where all the famous Spanish writers used to live. In fact, Cervantes, was born in the house across the street! 
Every picture you see online that the owner has posted is exactly true. My friend and I stayed in the twin en suite room 3 and loved it! It is small, but we were only there to sleep and shower. 
Great find in Madrid near everything! Excellent restaurants, bakeries, taperias, any kind of food you are looking for. It’s just down the street from the Metro station Anton Martin. It’s only a 15 minute walk to the Prado, Reina Sofia or the Royal Palace and many other cool places. 
I might have liked a softer pillow, but other than that, it was an absolutely lovely stay!

Excellent,  Stay Here!

We were disappointed last time we stayed at our usual Madrid hotel and had noticed the Pension Jaen as we walked round the area.  We read the Trip Advisor reviews and booked online.  We were very pleasantly surprised by the quality and cleanliness of the entrance hall of the building and more so to discover that there was a well maintained lift to the third floor Pension Jaen.  We had really braced ourselves to have to trudge up (and down) flights of stairs.  We were greeted very warmly and checked in efficiently by the lady at the small reception desk which we took to be the owner.  We were shown our room - number 4.  I could tell that my husband was disappointed by how small the room was but it was very competitively priced (€220 for the 4 nights) and adequately appointed.  There was a double bed (pushed up to the wall on one side); a single wardrobe but with plenty of hangers, (two drawers below and storage space above); a table; a chair and a very tiny but secure, locking, wall safe.  We requested and immediately received two more pillows though we did jettison them as they turned out to be a bit harder than we liked. There was a sink in the corner of the room and a toilet in a small separate shower room through a door by the bed.  Everything and everywhere was scrupulously clean. The window of our room looked out over a rather smart adjoining hotel or restaurant courtyard and a shutter to keep out light and noise.  We were not disturbed by the noise of other Jaen guests coming or going though, as another reviewer mentioned, we were occasionally awakened by someone using the loo during the night in an adjoining property.  The only disturbance we really had was when I had a migraine on the Sunday and needed to rest during the late afternoon.  The hotel owners appeared to have guests and were animatedly and loudly enjoying  the Spanish visitors in their kitchen with the door partially open.  It was so loud and intrusive that I got out of bed, stomped along the corridor, asked outside the half open door of their kitchen if they needed to be so damned loud and slammed our bedroom door as I went back to bed.  It went a little more quiet for a while though did build up again to the same volume.  The owners friends/relatives? eventually left.  My headache went and we were able to go out for the evening.  We had no recurrent disturbances and, overall, the sleep quality and comfort of the Jaen was more than acceptable except for the actual size of the room.  We enquired if there was a bigger en-suite room in case we decided to return and were told there was but it was occupied so we were unable to view it.  We did, however, note that that room was on the 'street' side of the Pension so there may have been more noise disturbances in that room.  As other reviewers have mentioned, the owners don't speak English and we don't really speak Spanish but we had no problems communicating.  Overall it was a  comfortable stay in a very clean little pension but we would have liked a bit more space to move around in our room.

Spotlessly clean and convenient location.

Great location positioned in a great place to explore the museums of Madrid.  Lots of places to eat nearby and man very nice and tried to be helpful although no English spoken,  ensure you go prepared with some form of translator. Basic but clean small room. My only problem was that there is no sign on the exterior of the property making it rather difficult to find. It is on floor 3 of the apartment block. This should not stop you visiting. Just do your homework. Nearest parking i found was at Plaza Bustillo underneath the Reina Sofia Gallery - 24hrs costs €31

Ideal 

This pension in a private home is well run and clean.  It is in a great location close to the Prado, Atocha Station and many of the main attractions of Madrid.  It is also in quite a historic location.  We stayed for four nights and were very comfortable.

It helps to be able to speak Spanish a little better than we could, as the owners speak only Spanish.  But we got by all right.
