The hotel was nice. They do not have a lot parking space.

There are probably better guesthouses in Gangneung, but if you're on a budget, Sketch Motel is a good choice. Probably the cheapest place we booked in our 1 week going around the country. Interaction with staff (during check in/out or with emails) is minimal, so don't be too surprised about that. The room itself is spacious, clean. They have free coffee and water and an elevator, and toiletries are provided. The place is near convenience stores and restaurants too.  If you're staying for a night, this place will do! 

Oh yeah, the sign for the motel itself is in Korean, so keep your eyes open for that.

Good for Budget Travelers!

For $30 a night, this place would be fine.  We were charged 10 times that, though, through Hotels.com, which refunded 10% to us when I complained.  Here are some of the issues for our 5-nt stay:
No bath towels, only hand towels; no closet; no drawers for clothes; the only electrical outlet was a power strip by the TV, which held plugs loosely, if at all; bathroom light on an uncontrollable timer with the switch in the other room; shower spray only hit the opposite wall, over our heads unless we stood on the angled end of the tub; no shower curtain so the whole bathroom was soaked; light by the door would come on and go off at odd hours; no one spoke or understood English; no English on the coffee machine.  Again, for $30 a night this would all be fine.  But marketing to Americans and gouging on the price without a single accommodation for the upcharge (like a shower curtain or translations on the coffee machine), even during the olympics, is just unacceptable.  We tried to adjust the shower head, but it just fell down. See photos below.

At $300 a Night for 5 Nights, This Place was Shameful

Nice hotel and hassle free stay

Even though it was the Olympic, means everything went up very high, I was really stupid to pay that amount to this place.(1)  It was very difficult to unlock the key, I needed a special skill and a patience. (2)  Most of employees, may be a family?, couldn't speak English, couldn't communicate. Even a mam rose the voice to me when I asked him a question. Very unfriendly, unprofessional.(3)  Room Cleaning: There was not sign of "Do not disturb" etc... First day. they didn't come,which was OK for me, and the next day they did. I hope they should have any tag to tell maidsthey could clean the room or not.(4)  There were nobody at the front desk in the night, but the door was widely open. Luck ofSecurity.(5) The building seemed like the one which had not been renovated for ages. The pension I stayed a week after this was much much nicer, very organized, good Security,their was lounge with free coffee/tea. Big difference!

Olympic Scam ! Not even deserve to list

No frills, but comfortable enough and in the center of town.  Efficient service.

I was VERY unhappy with this hotel. I made a reservation for more than a 1 week stay during a major local event and I ended up staying for only 1 night and moving to a different hotel. I thought it was dirty. The bath towels were only hand towel sized. There were half-used toiletries left for the guests to use, including a half tube of toothpaste in the shower and a can of bug spray next to a can of hairspray. The hotel was not wheelchair accessible, which meant I could not get my stroller inside without lugging it up steps to the front door. I couldn't really get my stroller around the hotel and into the room, either. I wanted to stay at the hotel since it was supposed to have a 24-hour front desk, but no one was manning it, most of the time, plus it was glassed off so you had to speak through a little window like a bank teller. The lighting in the room was awkward. The reading light has a red bub...??? I wasn't expecting much from the hotel...I understood I was getting what I paid for but it was worse than I thought it would be.
