This review is about 6 months late, but worth a mention.
The camp is beautiful with so much attention to detail. I can't remember the name of the hostess, but she was great, and no request was too big. The food was outstanding, and the bona dinners were magical - we were even entertained by fireflies the one evening!
The best part of our trip, was walking with Matt, what an asset he is to the lodge! Matt's bush ethic is like nothing we have encountered before. His love and respect for nature is commendable. I highly recommend this lodge and the walks to anyone that loves the bush, great food, and wants to experience both in the lap of luxury. 

Fantastic experience! 

From my first contact with Klaserie Sands I was impressed by the attention to detail.  Carmen's communication was great, frequent and clear communication and nothing was too much trouble when I had to reschedule my trip at very short notice.
The camp is small and unfenced and has been designed to blend into it's surroundings.  My safari tent had an amazing view and was perfectly equipped.
Matt was my guide for my 2 night stay and he was second to none, we did 2 walking safaris, 1 driving safari and 1 walking safari which became a driving safari when we found wild dog tracks and set off in search of them.  Morris is an amazing tracker and found the pack of wild dogs, we spent almost an hour with them and it was fascinating to see them so close up.
I really enjoyed seeing the smaller stuff on our walks and Matt's knowledge is incredible.  There are also a number of birds in camp and I spent my afternoons by the pool watching and photographing them.
The food that Liberty cooked up each day was superb and the service by the rest of the team was outstanding.  It was lovely to spend time with such a close knit team.  Thank you so much!

Amazing trip

A different type of bush adventure, where as in most safaris you drive & see large amounts of wildlife mainly the Big5

Here you pay attention to all the wildlife & have no choice but to be more vigilant as you at times will be walking in the wild tracking your animals on foot, we saw fresh hippo, elephant, leopard & other thrilling tracks. Whilst we followed the calls of lions, learnt about the many spiders & bush plants that crossed our paths. We made the open camp our home for 2 days, whilst we slept elephant visited & hyenas called..

We were educated on not only the birds we could see but listening to their beautiful chatter. 

Food & service was outstanding & the lodge itself simply beautifully designed & built. 

Our luxury tent was more than ample for the setting, fitted with in & outdoor shower, ceiling fan, comfortable beds & bedding. We had a nice pvt deck looking into the open unfenced bush. 

On these trips we saw many various wild & wonderful animals, even had a small run in with an elephant, they setup a special picnic out in the bush which was absolutely delightful. 

Only slight set back was no signal at camp & we got a little lost heading to base camp. 


A walk on the wild side 

Covid has shown us that all is not bad, it has made us stop once again and look for the little gems that are a plenty in this country - Klaserie  Sands River Camp is not only a gem, but a diamond.
A warm welcome awaits you as you leave the game viewing vehicle and you just sense that this is going to be one of those trips that you are going to tuck safely in your heart. The decor has been tastefully done and the layout of the camp is such that each tent maximizes the view. The pool attracts a wide range of birds and loungers have been strategically placed so that you can watch the politics of the bird kingdom.
The tents have all the home comforts and more, and for those brave enough, there is an outside shower where you can look up into the night skies, listen to the calling of the hyenas, all this while you wash the days dust off.
Meal times are spent around a large table and it is evident that great thought has gone into the drawing up of the menus.
Breakfasts are spent around the fire with and you leave on your walk knowing that the staff have something special arranged. Matthew and Morris show you the beauty of the bush and the behaviour of the animals, and on return to camp you feel a little wiser , and have a renewed respect of the bush. Spending time in their company, was enriching.
The entire staff make you feel like you are special to them, that your enjoyment and experience of the camp and walks matter to them, and on leaving one goes with a heavy heart knowing that you genuinely will miss spending time with each one of them.
I could right pages and pages, so let me end by saying  - Go and experience it yourself, you will come home knowing that you have made the magic memories, and will probably start planning the next trip.

A gem

We went to Klaserie for our honeymoon and had an amazing time. This was our first Safari experience and it exceeded our expectations. The lodge is small, we were only 6 guests the whole time. The rooms have a good size, we were in villa 2 which had a river view and one day we saw an elephant from our room. 
Since the lodge is small, the attention from the staff was superb. The owners Lee-Ann and Louis are super nice and attentive at all times. 
The host, Yami, was amazing and treated us excellent. 
The food and drinks were 10/10, we were amazed by the level of gourmet food. I’m a pescatarian and they had a different meal for me every time. Also, the breakfast was the best!! 
The game drives with Elly and Caswell were super fun. We didn’t have so much luck with the animals, we only saw 3 out of the big 5 but we only went for two days so there’s no one to blame. Elly is an excellent guide, she always answered our questions and always had fun facts to share with us. 
We definately recommend Klaserie, it was a wonderful experience. 

Honeymoon Safari

This was a return visit to Klaserie and we stayed at both the River Camp and the new Safari Trails Camp.  Didn't think it could get better than the previous visit, but it did!  After 36 years of visiting and/or working in Southern Africa this is without doubt the best safari lodge and game viewing I have experienced.  There is absolute attention to detail, amazing staff, knowledgeable rangers and trackers, fantastic accommodation and hospitality.  The camp is informal so expect to eat breakfast and dinner in your safari clothes - which frees up time for relaxation and time by the pool.  Other camps break up the day by getting you to shower and change for breakfast then again for lunch and dinner but if you want relaxation and time to read books, view the game and birds at the waterhole and go home feeling like you have had a holiday and an adventure then this is definitely the place to go.  Love it and we will be going back again.

Outstanding safari lodge and experience

Elly and Caswell spotted the rhino track on our game drive and Elly stopped to show us the print in the dirt. She mentioned dung midden sand five minutes later we stopped at one where we could see some fresh dung. She got out and felt that it was still warm. We drove on and spotted a urine marking. She got out and showed us the urine soaked Bush still dripping fresh urine. Ten minutes later we were photographing a male bull rhino off in the bush. An amazing day that ended with movies of two lions. Wow

Tracking the white rhino

Our stay in Klaserie Sands Rive Camp was just magic ! The lodge is located in the middle of nowhere, along a sand river. Since there is only few suites, the atmosphere is very intimate. The place is beautiful and the lodge is very well integrated in nature.
The staff is really friendly. As soon as you enter the lobby, you can feel warmly welcome. Florence and Ellie were really kind and helpful !
The living and dining room, the sundeck with the pool, the bar... : everything was just perfect.
The lodge has been renewed a few years ago and accomodations are completely beyond our wildest expectations !!! The suites are very large, with king size bed, mosquito netts, large closet with complimentary safety box. Each suite get is own sundeck along the sand river. The bathroom was very large too.
Everything was perfectly clean. The rooms are refreshed twice a day while you are gone for game drives...
Beverages are complimentary. The food was really good. The only point to watch is perhaps the quantity for breakfast...
Game drives were just amazing !! Matt the driver and Kasi the tracker were really friendly and professionnal. Lots of explanations, never disturbing animals, but making efforts in order everybody in the car can enjoy all the animals. We were not lucky because of the rain but we have seen so many animals that rain was not a problem at all. It was our second private reserve and nature was totally different at Klaserie, making the atmosphere special in this aera.
It was such a wonderful experience that we will definitely recommend Klaserie Sands River Camp !! Thanks to the entire team. We hope coming back next time in South Africa...

Simply AMAZING !!!

We had a wonderfully memorable 4-night stay at Klaserie Sands River Camp and cannot recommend it more highly. Luxurious accommodation, excellent food and pleasant and attentive staff. Louis and Lee-Ann have brought together an excellent team, including highly skilled, knowledgeable, personable guides and trackers, and unobtrusively attentive, friendly lodge and catering staff.

The game drives were excellent. The guides ensured that the animals came first, keeping disturbance to a minimum whilst positioning the vehicle to give everyone the opportunity to watch, take photos and enjoy. Sure, everyone wants and loves to see the impressive larger mammals, but the guides showed us much more, from the hilarious display of the male red-crested Korhaan (“suicide-bird”) to the industrious dung beetles. The views of the wildlife were interspersed with storytelling – fascinating insights into the lives of the animals and plants around us. Education really should be this fun, particularly with a sun-downer thrown in!

Back at the camp it was wonderful to be able to relax and watch elephants and wart hogs come to the water hole on the other side of the river bed and observe birds moving along the river bed,  through the trees or wheeling high in the sky. It made us want to take a closer look and so a walking safari was organised, starting out along the normally dry river bed which still had pools of water from recent downpours. Great to see turtles enjoying a brief moment in the wet and great that the rain meant that any tracks were fresh and clear so that we could stop, examine and determine what made them. The first tracks turned out to be from a young crocodile. Funny how everyone immediately started walking more carefully!

The walking safari is much more intimate than the game drives, giving time to examine tracks, identify the flowers, watch termites regulating their air vents, listen to and watch the smaller birds, learn about various plants through taste and smell, and to examine dung! A truly different experience and one that should not be missed.

We look forward to returning to Klaserie and enjoying the heady mix of pampering, expert game drives and back-to-nature walking safaris. Definitely not one to leave as a "once-in-a-lifetime" experience!

A luxury safari experience not to be missed.

We’ve never imagined a experience like this in any way! This all inclusive Safari Camp really makes dreams come true. From 6 all perfect Game Drives to outstanding dinner experiences and a very very special Bush Dinner, the Klaserie Sands staff overwhelmed all of our expectations! We got so lucky to view all of the big 5 and even more animals on our Game Drives having breathtaking sunset drinks as well.

We really want to thank every single person of the camp for their friendly, attentive and hearty work to make our stay a once in a lifetime experience. 

A piece of our heart will always stay at Klaserie and we will sure come back one day - the sooner the better!
