Have been booking at this upmarket guesthouse numerous times and have never been dissapointed. Rassie and Elisna is absolutely amazing. Thank you for the professional way in which you always treat me. No better place to stay in Bloemfontein and the food is amazing! Will always book at Alchemy.

Best service in Bloemfontein

From the very first interaction with the guest  house the Friendly staff welcomes you and help with what ever you might need. wonderful food in the morning with great serenity for rest at night. I will definitely stay here again as they make you feel like part of the family. 

Amazing over night stay 

I often travel to Bloemfontein on business and whilst I rate the rooms as good (they are clean and have the basic necessities), I rate the hospitality of the staff as excellent. They are extremely friendly and accommodating on all accounts. A real treat is the dinners that Rassie (spelling?) prepares, which after a long day is so welcome instead of trapsing around town looking.  And breakfasts with a homemade touch.  When leaving early, I even get a morning breakfast pack, to get me through the day.  
The rooms may not be the fanciest but the warmth of the staff truly makes up for it.

Awesome hospitality

I asked my assistant to check one thing when arranging accommodation for me while attending a conference - that there is wireless internet access. She was assured there was and made the booking. When I arrived, check-in was efficient but once I was settled, I could only get a very slow connection to the internet. 

I queried this at reception and was assured it would be sorted out the next day. It wasn't and I ended up using almost 2Gb of my cellphone data during the three nights I stayed. Thank goodness for good Vodacom coverage and download speeds.

I'm afraid that just doesn't cut it in 2019.

Signage for the guesthouse is not visible enough. 
Our room was next to reception so we could hear everything that was happening, especially the noisy staff the next morning. Good thing we only slept for one night. 
Kindly consider installing a bathroom door for some "privacy". We were told at 09:00am in the morning that breakfast ends at 09:00am.
No one was at reception the following morning for check out, we rung the bell for a while and there was no response until we decided to go "hunting" ourselves.

Average Service

I arrived in the evening - and struggle to find the place, not because I couldn't find the address, but because there isn't any illuminated signage. 
Their idea of serving an evening meal is warming up food leftover from who knows when in a microwave oven. No choice what I wanted to eat or drink - got suspect yellow cooldrink that looks like the 'mix-with-water' type. 
Not one of the bathroom or toilet windows had a catch! Seriously. When I said I wanted to check out, they offered me another room, also without a catch on the bathroom window (and it's cold outside)!!
No bathroom mats or rugs on ice cold tile floors. No curtains in bathroom.
Place looks like a bit of a dump - as if they converted a garage into rooms with poor quality furniture to boot. 
Hostess greeted me wearing slippers. How charming. 
The last straw was the matted hairball in the shower drain. Run far & fast!! 
Oh and BTW, they describe themselves as minimalistic when they mean there's a total lack of anything refined, tasteful or that may look like a finishing touch of any kind.
