Complex Turistic Varvara

cottages arranged in a traditional style but with modern furniture and equipment, equipped with everything you need to have a successful vacation. Activities: fishing nearby, when it's hot you can use the outdoor pools, the cottages are full of books of all kinds, connected to the internet and Netflix. The complex is very well maintained, the food is tasty and the hosts are very hospitable. A successful vacation!

Casa Varvara is a corner of paradise that must be seen, lived and felt at least once in a lifetime. We stood here for a few wonderful days and how beautiful memories we gathered! Sanda and Roberto, our hosts, were so friendly and helpful, they gave us hints and advices about the beauties of Dobrogea, or about boat trips close to the house or on the channels of The Danube Delta, far away, to Sulina and Letea Forest. They recommended us the best restaurants to order our food, having the most relaxed dinners, on our private terrace, overlooking the beautiful garden and pools.
Casa Varvara is a place where we will return for sure, to cure our minds, bodies and souls, is place that we won't stop recommending, heartedly.

Sometimes it's best to start with the bad points.

Some mornings the water pressure is too low to have an effective shower...

...and that's about it.  There are no other bad points. As a family of four we had two bedrooms and a large kitchen/living room in a double glazed, air conditioned, "traditional" thatched cottage with a choice of two pools, beautiful gardens, sun loungers, terrace and a wonderful view for about 20km across the Danube delta.  All for 100 euros a night in August.  We stayed for 8 nights and hardly left the place.

The hosts do all they can to make your stay enjoyable.  They have lived in the UK and speak perfect English, and even have emergency stocks of English tea bags if things get desperate.  Breakfast comes as a bit of a shock: tea, coffee, pancakes, eggs, bruschetta, cheese, jam, fish roe, vegetable spread, ham, salami, sausage, pickled fish, olives, cucumber, tomato, bread, toast... The full Romanian, presumably.  It may cost 7 euros per person but you can take the excess back with you and have it for lunch for the next 3 days.  Not to mention the occasional extra such as fresh homemade doughnuts brought to your door.

There are no two ways about it: if you want to stay in rural Romania this is the best you are likely to find.  Probably the best value in the area.  And in Romania. And in eastern Europe.  And - probably - in the rest of Europe.

Just a few notes on the surroundings:

- you may be tempted to try the restaurant 1km up the road at the Delta Nature Resort.  Don't.  Go to Tulcea (20mins by car) instead.
- the best large shop in the area is the Kaufland supermarket in Tulcea, though for some reason it's easier to find Bellhaven Scottish Stout or Old Speckled Hen here than decent Romanian beer.
- the (limited) shops in Somova are of the serve-behind-a-counter rather than choose yourself type and the staff speak absolutely no English.  Be prepared for good natured giggling from the other customers as you struggle to get them to understand your rudimentary Romanian.  But sign language and a smile will get most things sorted.

A lovely small complex with a unique selection of different accommodations to suit  varying party sizes. Lovely family run atmosphere, hosts are very welcoming, knowledgable of the area and always someone on hand to help with a friendly touch. Breakfast is very special, home made and local products, different variation everyday. We slept extremely well and long every night. During the day, Well situated for Tulcea and boat trips onto the delta and visiting the local monasteries, etc. The restaurant the host recommended just 1k up the road was very good. we felt we could have spent a little more time than 3 nights relaxing and enjoying the area and the pools and atmosphere in this lovely complex but sadly our schedule was pre booked.

A beautifully landscaped oasis of traditional cottages situated around two pools and facing a scenic expanse of the Danube Delta. It was picturesque and quiet (just birds chirping), and we spent a lot of time just relaxing, reading and sipping wine. This is a place to unwind! The owners (she speaks English) arranged for a boat tour of the Delta and provided recommendations for other things. We were upgraded to the main house, an original historic structure that had traditional decorations and furniture, yet was absolutely gorgeous and felt very modern.  This is the place to stay in this area!

I have heard about Casa Varvara for few years now, but every time I wanted to come out this way, it was booked up. Not this time though and we were so excited to book a trip here! Indeed a fine place which  lives up to its reputation of being an intimate and beautiful family resort. The views from our Summer  House were gorgeous, loved having a roomy traditional terrace overlooking a blue tile, crystalline pool, set amidst a rose, lavender and sour cherry trees garden. The rooms to our house keep that traditional Romanian feel through decorations but all modern amenities are on hand. The beds were super comfy with nice linens, the bathroom had nice fixtures, plush towels and everything in fine working order. We had breakfast here and it was AMAZING. The menu had a great selection and the prices were very, very reasonable. We took a three hour trip on a small power boat, in the  small Delta marsh which has some of the most beautiful scenery. Thank you to our wonderful hosts, a most friendly and welcoming family.  Looking so forward to coming back, it is the perfect getaway with family or friends.

this place it's amazing for those who want peace and quiet in a unique location. houses are rustic decorated, but with all the amenities you want in a hotel. very clean pool and good breakfast with fresh local products. you must try a boat trip to Danube Delta canals. highly recommanded.
