In the summer of 2016, we were at Rita's estate. It was beautiful! (Excuse me dear Rita, the review is only coming so late!) The establishment is very tasty. Rita has beautifully decorated her bags from all over the world - and has a story to tell. In the morning there is a great breakfast on the terrace with homemade cake, lots of fresh fruit and specialties. A look at the unique and very well-groomed garden makes one forget the time! Rita is a great hostess, we really enjoyed the time and hope to come back soon. Her excursion tickets and bookings were also very good. The location at the Costa Vicentina restaurant with a few hot beach days was perfect.

An oasis of peace!

The house is pretty, quite well decorated (the rooms and the living room/kitchen) and well situated for excursions around the area. The breakfast is very good (out of 10) in a living room and the kitchen is very well decorated. The good thing is not without criticism. I did NOT like the overconfidence of Mrs. Rita, the owner, with her uncomfortable insistence on questions of personal character. It seems that she does not know where kindness ends with intrusion. Her recommendations from some restaurants were not very successful, we do not like them. I guess by bad luck. I also thought that the living room was a common type of use for the guests, but I did not have the opportunity to sit for three minutes in a row. But when it was not for the hour it was for other reasons (also for the quality). But after we had met on the Victorian coast, we were so unfamiliar with the law of intrusion that we were unfamiliar with it.

It would be very good if it wasn't for the hostess.

Our arrival was disappointing: it was raining cords, all night and all morning... so we arrived early afternoon instead of check-in at 4pm. We were asked to go to lunch and come back at the scheduled time, not earlier!... Surprising for a B&B... while we are told all the time that it is the big hotel chains that are impersonal... The hostess advises you and guides you to the activities and restaurants of the area. She owns several rooms, including the French one and tells you all the history of this house and her travels, who are entitled to bring the items related to her house, not earlier! A haven of peace...

A beautiful place decorated with taste, we were welcomed by a charming hostess, Rita, who speaks several languages including French. Rita, a beautiful person, has a single creed, the well-being of her guests so that they can leave absolutely conquered by this beautiful region which is Alentejo and northern Algarve with its beautiful beaches and hiking trails. She knows how to convey her love of this region with multiple tips for visiting the region through her landscapes and restaurants.

A Refuge of Peace and a Wonderful Reception

This is a great location (about 2 and 1/2 driving hours south of Lisbon) to have a great holliday experience, in quiet countryside surroundings. It is a great place to explore the Costa Vicentina, with it's 110km of beautiful preserved beaches.
The property is located in the countryside, and a B & B, so you will need a car. Parking is free.
We felt most welcomed by Rita, the owner and manager of the property, who showed us around, explained her project to us, and gave great advice on where to eat and how to explore the coast. She is an associate with the ´Rota Vicentina', an  organization that edits charts and guides to support walking or BTT hikers in locating and exploring several coastal and inner trails.
Cerro da Borrega is a true boutique B & B, with a well taken care of home and surroundings. The house is recently built, using local traditional techniques (a must for architects and civil engineers). Interiors are peaceful, very comfortable, decorated with excellent taste and attention in every detail. Children are not allowed. Rooms are comfortable, spacious, clean, well heated. There is no air conditioning. Rooms have no mini bar. Bathroom was stylish, with heated floor and towel racks. Very good breakfast (continental). Wifi is free.
This was a wonderful experience. We arrived as guests and left as friends. And will certainly return.

Much more than a countryside B & B

We were hiking the Historic Trail off of the Rota Vicentina with all our gear in our backpacks. I had booked Cerro da Borrega as a special treat for us after 5 days of hiking. Visually and comfort-wise it is exquisite. The owner, Rita, did an amazing job designing it with an architect. Practically, though, there were some problems. First, the trail markings for the side trail off of the Historic Trail are poor. Someone could walk it in a few hours and make proper markings. We were left feeling uncertain if the Cerro da Borrega’s owner was serious about supporting the trail. Finding the B&B off of that trail needs some serious work. It turned out to be way more expensive than I had expected because we had to take taxis out to dinner and had no fridge in our room to stock for our own needs. Rita is passionate about her work here and will tell you where to go and what to do, so be prepared with your own ideas. We wanted to walk to Sao Teotonio for an early dinner, but were told in no uncertain terms that this town was not worth seeing and that only workers lived here and that there were no good restaurants. We had read great things about the town in the Historic Trail’s propaganda, and we actually have an affinity for the simple life and working people, so we are disappointed that we listened to her and took a taxi to another town far away (Aljezur- about $60 Euros round trip on top of the dinner @ $35 Euros). As I said, be strong in your desires! Also, don't go here if you are hiking unless you are prepared to pay for taxis. The local taxi-driver, Fatima, is highly professional and drives a very cool Mercedes. We did love the beauty of the building, and we enjoyed the gorgeous king suite. Rita is a good person, and she puts her "all" into making this a special boutique hotel. She really was helpful in many ways, including showing us a natural biopool (pond) on the property that we enjoyed skinny-dipping in! The water is sooooo clean, even though the edges are muddy. You can rent a towel for 5 Euros to use at the pond; do not take your white shower towel out there. Also, if you want Espresso in the a.m., be prepared to pay about 1.5 Euros for that. So, there are a lot of rules, and it was not the relaxing, laid back experience we expected, but it certainly had its benefits!

You will need a car at this B&B

We were hoping for a peaceful, private property, with access to the regional highlights.  We spent three nights at this property, two and 1/2 hours' drive from Lisboa, and our expectations were exceeded at every turn.  Our host, Rita, went out of her way to communicate about the area, and take care of all our needs.  As she said, she does feel that her guests are her responsibility, and she takes that seriously.  The facility was beautiful, comfortable, and most relaxing.  We will definitely stay here when we return to the area.

Special in the Algarve

We booked this property to stay at because, well I hate big hotels and enjoy individuality, creativity and imaginative properties. Initially i thought we had struck gold.
The property is stunning, beautifully designed and decorated. We had the suite which was beautiful. Wonderful shower, big comfy bed.
The property is designed in a traditional way with traditional building methods used and incorporating some Moorish architecture, arranged around a central courtyard with water to draw air through the whole building.
Because the walls are 65cm thick, they do block out a lot of the suns heat, a couple of nights it was too hot to sleep and there is no aircon but we were given a fan when we asked for one.
There is no fridge in the room, this is an oversight on the part of the owners.
There is a small wine fridge in the reception but that was for keeping red wine in! To not have anywhere to chill water, beer or wine was a bit of a pain but we are resourceful people and we bought some ice from the supermarket (2 euro) and that way you also have ice for drinks too!
One previous traveler moaned about the map they had to pay 10 Euros for, have your 10 euros ready because this map is essential to finding your way around the region, fail to buy one at your peril.
Rita will then give you a run down of the local area, and point out some good restaurants and beaches. This is where the map comes in.
We were told where to go and at times it did sound like we were being told where to go and what to do, but our kind of holiday is to do a bit of research before we travel and then follow our noses. We did exactly that and found some stunning beaches, in fact a new one each day.
You most definitely do need a vehicle and there is plenty to see and do in the local area, you dont have to travel far at all.
Breakfast was nice, nothing stunning, just nice, fresh fruits, freshly squeezed orange juice, bread/toast and a selection of meat/cheese, just like you can buy in the local supermarket. The honey however was exceptional and you might get invited into the kitchen to see the fig jam being made.
The biggest plus about this property was the tranquility, at night when we got back in the evening we would sit on our little terrace and look up at a night sky untainted by light pollution and drink a bottle of wine from our home made fridge, then we would close the shutters, have a great shower and go and sleep in the huge comfy bed that was made perfectly every day.
I would then awake when my body said so, there was no noise at all, not much light in the room, my activity tracker said I achieved my sleep targets on 4 out of 7 nights. That has never happened before! Waking up naturally means you are rested.
We didn't spend anytime in the day there, we just wanted to get out and explore, the beach below is one we went to, I wont tell you where, you have to find it yourselves. On this particular day there were 6 people on it! Yes 6!

Mixed emotions

We spent 10 days in this beautiful place. The house is very tastefully decorated. Breakfast on the terrace gives you a great view of the well-kept garden. And Rita is a hostess who leaves no wishes open. Her tips for breakfast have been a regular hit, we'll be back!

Stylish from A to Z

I love Costa Vicentina! Cerro da Borrega is the place that brings all the good things of this area together!  
Beautiful property! Very well decorated and specially because each element has a story to tell, and Rita is the perfect storyteller! 
Lovely breackfast, with homemade products and recipes... I definitly loved the "marmelada" and fresh cheese; Lovely outside areas to relax or just to enjoy yourself and nature; lovely evenings full of sparkling stars and most of all lovely atmosphere that makes you feel at home.
