This place was one of my favorite hotels during my two week Morocco trip with g-adventures. There is a huge new wing with a large courtyard, very spacious rooms, and a second (fabulous) swimming pool.  The staff people were just lovely and the food was good (including a delightful group dinner in one of the original courtyards on our second night). The 4x4 trip into the desert and the sunset camel rides were both excellent. 
I didn’t see any of the problems with cleanliness that an earlier reviewer reported; in fact I was very impressed with all the sweeping and cleaning that was always going on around us. 
I loved this place and would recommend it highly to anyone!

Terrific experience 

Really cool experience on the edge of the Sahara! Lovely pool area, spacious and rustic rooms, beautiful setting. Some quirks to the hotel, but the location cannot be beat. Beautiful back balcony that opens up into the dessert. Stayed with G adventures.

Unique accommodation

We loved this hotel! The staff were really hard working and kind. They not only took care of checking people in, handling luggage, and serving meals; as bunch of them played drums and entertained us after dinner. 

The hotel is right on the dunes and you can walk out into the desert to view the sunrise. You can arrange a 4x4 tour that picks you up from the hotel.  They also arranged a camel ride for us, to go out into the dunes and view the sunset, and the camels were very gentle. The sunset was spectacular.

The room had a toilet, shower, electricity, private patio, and there was a pool available too. That pool feels great after a day in the desert!

The tagine meal at the hotel was good, with the typical melons for dessert.

Hard-working, Excellent Staff!

It's a wonderful place next to the dunes of Sahara desert. Breakfast is great with the flavour of Morocco cuisine. I loved the camp where you can see the beautiful sky full of stars and slept in a Jaima, a tent in the middle of the desert red sand. The service is kind and very helpful.

Wonderful place, great views, the people are extremely nice. Of course it is dusty… you are right at the feet of the dunes, sand goes in and oyt as it pleases… even with that it is very cozy. The hotel can provide trips to the nearest town and you can have quite an experience buyong rugs, lamps, spices, take cash, almost no one in town takes credit cards. Ask in the hotel to take you to enjoy a hammam, a traditional bath with oils and salts. They srub your skin and you leave very relaxed and with the greatest skin ever!! 

The most wonderful view in Morocco! Will go as many times as I can. Hotel accomodations for families are very enjoyable

7 of us organized a 3 week trip of southern Morocco and it included 5 days at this property.  Three in the hotel and 2 in their "luxury camp."  

There is no way any of us can understand high ratings for this place.  It was run down - not maintained at all.  

Slime growing on the surfaces of the pool, porches that collected sand that was never removed, lots of birds flying freely into the kitchen and dining room (pooping on the chairs, window sills and god knows where else that was never cleaned up), etc.  The food was okay but nothing special (despite the conditions we did not get sick).  Rooms with sporadic hot water which seems to be a thing throughout rural Morocco.    The staff was, with one exception, friendly but they did not have much to work with.  

Our "luxury camp" for two nights was okay - certainly not a luxury situation but okay.  While dinner was served at the camp, it was brought from the hotel in a truck.  Breakfast required us to walk back to the dining room at the hotel.  

if you are traveling to this part of Morocco - look for a different place to stay.

5 day stay - 5 days too long

Dunes D'Or is (as the name implies) right on the edge of the Sahara Dunes near Merzouga. You literally walk out of the hotel back doors right onto the dunes. The rooms are large but could use a little bit more cleaning. I realize dust/sand is hard to keep out when you're in this area but it seemed like things hadn't been cleaned in a while. That said, the grounds are beautiful. There is an awesome swimming pool that is very enjoyable to sit by or swim in. There are also 4x4 tours of the dunes and  tours of the dunes on camelback offered. I opted for BOTH and am glad that I did. There are no restaurants in the area, so you have to eat at the hotel, but I found the food to be very good (get the Berber omelet!). I would love to go back again. It's so peaceful out in the desert and the night sky is amazing.

A unique choice, probably unlike any other place you've stayed

I spent one night at this lovely hotel and I wish I had booked for longer.  My room opened up right onto the Sahara desert.  The staff were great and put on entertainment in the evening where we played drums and danced under the clear stary sky.  It was definitely worth the visit.

Amazing Views of the Sahara

Located just at the edge of the sans dunes you wake up to a fantastic sunrise and go to bed with a stunning sunset. Ideal for walk on dunes or camel ride. No restaurant around so you must have the food of the hotel. It is ok not great. The place needs renovation but it is quite charming.

Fantastic location

Had a lovey two days stay at this hotel.  Gives you a real desert experience, walking in the dunes around the hotel.  Great opportunity to see some spectacular  sunrise and sunsets.  Rooms were OK, food was good too. One draw back no Internet In the rooms only in the common area and that too not very reliable.
