We enjoyed a lot staying during 3 nights there. Simo is the guy who works there and helped us with everything and was always kind. The location is really good and also the breakfast. We were 3 girls of Spain and would repeat the experience.

Excellent choice!

Staying at Riad Sunrise was like a home away from home. We managed to find the riad ourselves, with some difficulty, using google maps but thy would have happily come and met us.
We were greeted with Moroccan tea which was lovely and refreshing after a long journey. Simo sat with us and told us about the riad and the local area.

We chose a riad as we wanted to get a real authentic stay - and that’s what we got. I loved the decor - especially the bathroom which i will try to replicate at home. 

The sun terrace is great and gives a wonderful view of the busy medina and beyond - the only thing I would add would be a parasol for some shade.

Simo recommended a restaurant for dinner and not only accompanied us there but also came to collect us so we would not get lost - he also secured us the best seat and view!

Sumaya makes the vest Moroccan breakfast - and we’ve had a few!! I woke one morning with a sore throat and she happily went out to the shop to be able to make me a drink of hot water, freshly squeezed lemon and honey. Nothing was too much trouble.

Both Simo and Sumaya were really friendly and welcoming, offering advice on where to go and what to see and also greeting us and asking us how our day was when we returned. Regardless of any work they had to do they were more than happy to take the time to sit, listen and share - whilst also giving us the time to relax alone - they really take the que from you. We really felt like family and missed this warmth elsewhere in Morocco.

I would 100% recommend this riad, it’s right on the doorstep of the medina but somehow manages to offer peace and quiet. We slept great! Our stay at Riad Sunrise made us love Fes even more - more than Marrakech and we would definitely return! Thank you.

Wonderful Stay

The location of Riad Sunrise was absolutely perfect for us. Most tourists want to stay near the overrated Bab Bajloud (Blue Gate) but Bab Rcif is so much more lively. It has a buzzing square, full of local stalls, mini fairground for kids, chilled restaurants, a picturesque canal, or just sit on one of the city walls and watch the locals go about their daily routine. And Riad Sunrise is a 2 min walk away from here.

As soon as we arrived, we were greeted with the customary mint tea which was absolutely perfect way to cool down after our journey. The staff were v attentive, and made food at us at whatever hour we desired (at other places we stayed, breakfast was over by 10am) at no extra cos. 

Our en-suite room had ample space and was beautifully decorated. Shower was soothingly hot and there was all sorts of toiletries on hand. The local shampoo (I don't know the name but perhaps called 'tar') was v popular with my wife. She said her hair had never ever felt better and took a huge sample home with her.

Ibrahim, the main host, went above and beyond his way to tend to our needs. He gave unique insights on how to best see Fes, avoid tourist traps, and not get ripped off. 
Some Riads strongly coerce you into using their own taxi (usually for 50% more than the normal price) but Ibrahim not only encouraged us to see if we could get a better price privately, but awoke at 3.30am and accompanied us to the taxi to ensure we made it on time.

I also loved the fact that my entire stay there was stress-free. Riads are renowned for pushing their own tours and hinting at tips (baksheesh) at every turn but we never encountered this. If anything at the end of the trip, I wanted to give them a tip of my own accord, such was the care and affection they displayed towards us.

In terms of how to get there from the airport, taxis are plentiful from the airport (do not pay more than 120 Dirhams to anywhere in the medina) and journey is 30mins. Better still, do what we did and get the local bus. It cost us 6.50 Dirhams each and was wonderful mixing with the locals and other tourists on the bus too. There is only one bus that goes to the airport (number 16) but the stop is directly outside the airport gate (do not be fooled by the taxi drivers who will say it doesn't run or exist). After you leave the terminal, its a 3 min walk to the north east corner to the gate. You will see a small roundabout and the bus stop is opposite (there will be a small queue of people waiting). It leaves every 20 minutes but if it gets too hot you can stay under the shade of the big tree. 

The fare to the main train station (it's the last stop) is 4 dirhams each. Takes about 25-30 mins. From there you can either get a petis taxis (the cute small red ones) to the riad directly for 15 dirhams) or get another bus, number 19, from the same stop, and that takes you directly to Bab Rcif too. That fare is 2.50 dirhams each and journey is 10 mins. From there you can walk the 2 mins to the riad or just message them in advance and arrange a staff member to meet you directly. The only regret I had was not visiting the roof terrace - I completely forgot!! But I heard from other guests the view is beautiful.

Perfect for short break to Fes!

Our four nights at Riad Sunrise in early February were fantastic. Ibrahim, the young man who seemed to take care of almost everything, was an absolute joy to be around, and he’s a remarkable unofficial concierge: whatever you want or need, he knows how to find it. Need a taxi but there aren’t any around? He’ll broker a deal with some locals to take you to the train station in their work van at an amazing price. Want to find wine in a mostly dry country? He’s got directions to the nearest shop, and will even offer to procure it for you. 

The rooms were very comfortable, with extremely luxe sheets and tasteful local decor. The location can’t be beat, either, as it’s close to pretty much all the major sites, and it’s got a road nearby that tour drivers love for the ease of picking up passengers there. The Riad also has a fifth-storey rooftop terrace that gives an absolutely breathtaking view of the city, and is especially amazing at prayer times when the calls of countless muezzins resound from all around you. It’s really magical.

A lovely stay in Fes!

We spend 3 nights at Riad Sunrise. The hosts were very friendly and attentive to our needs.
The breakfast is really good (Moroccan bread, pancakes, tea, coffee and so on).
The Riad is stunning! Very beautiful Moroccan decoration. 
The rooms are equipped with air conditioning, which is very appreciable when temperatures reach 30 degrees!
The Riad is perfectly located in the Medina, everything is easy to access by foot and by taxi.
The roof terrace offers a perfect view over the medina. 
We highly recommend it!
