The staff were wonderful Mark and I love the staff. Nice rooms half a block away great Seafood restaurant. Great location. I will return. The accommodate you. They are near the town center. It was very quite so you sleep good.

Very nice hotel. Cultural design, great colors, clean rooms and freindly staff. Only thing night time parking is around block in enclosed area

Affordable and quiet location, clean room and comfortable beds. The water pressure was good and the water was hot. The room we had got very hot but there is a powerful ceiling fan. We had the back corner room which didn’t get the best WiFi connection. The staff was really lovely and the walk into center of town is about 15-20 min. One charming feature is the owners love of plants, and containers of succulents and other plants are plentiful here. I would come back to stay here!

We stayed here because it had parking for our van and allowed pets at no charge. Otherwise we could have stayed in a nicer hotel in a better part of town for the same price. No refrigerator, microwave, no ice, no lobby. Towels with holes in them, and the rooms are lit with bare fluorescent ceiling bulbs. The most uncomfortable thing was being locked in on Sunday when there was only one guy working. Probably illegal and definitely unsafe.

Tolerable

It was clean and the area was quiet and walking distance to the center.  However, the water pressure was not good.  I could deal with the cool temperature but not the water pressure in the shower.

We stayed one night in this motel style place.  The staff was very accommodating and even reserved a taxi for us the night before for our early morning flight. The room was spacious and quiet. The grounds are very pretty with lots of potted plants. It's across the street from a food market and about a 10-15 minute walk to Santa Domingo Square.

I have stayed in this motel-style property many times while visiting beautiful Oaxaca. It is located on a bustling avenue in the historic central district of the city that becomes graveyard quiet at bedtime. The property is one hundred yards from La Merced Market, five minutes from a few quaint parks, and ten minutes (walking) from the Zócalo (central plaza). The Llano park is the same distance in a different direction.  The Rincón de Doña Bety (Little Corner Hotel) is a family-owned establishment. The staff is pleasant and efficient. Your room will always be clean, light, and airy. (With very strong Wifi.) You won't find much english being spoken at the desk, but instead, an affordable room for your time in Oaxaca. The hot water is hot indeed but the pressure is weak in several of the units. Stay here and save your money for good eats, beautiful tapestries, and fascinating tours.

Small, Safe, and Tranquil

We were in Oaxaca last summer.  We stayed at this hotel.  It is small, but quiet.  It is walking distance to the Zocalo.  The staff is helpful and friendly.  The rooms are clean.  There is an eating area on the second floor.  The complex is decorated with potted flowering plants.  You can book in advance and pay upon arrival.  I will book again.

When we were in Oaxaca last year, I spotted this hotel on the Google Map. I noted that is was very close to el Mercado de La Merced, the Anahata Spa and the Anacondas swimming pool. It is not near the Zócalo, which was fine with us. I looked at one of the simple but clean and lovingly maintained rooms last year. This year I brought my wife to look it over, and we decided to stay there.There are 15 units, in American old-time motel style, on two levels, with a secured parking lot/patio in front. The rooms will never win any prizes for elegance, but they have most of what the more adventurous and frugal traveler needs. The exterior is planted with potted flowers and plants. There is a cute cat, Úrsula, who roams the property. 

There is plentiful hot water, although the pressure, at least in our room, is weak. In fact, the water is so hot that it's a little tricky to temper it from the cold water knob.

Beds are not the most comfortable ever. The pillowcases are made of a textured cloth. But we quickly accustomed ourselves to them and slept without difficulty. It's amazing, that although Avenida Morelos outside is noisy in the daytime, our room was comparatively very quiet during the night.

The staff is very kind and helpful. They invited us to use the small shared kitchen to use as we wished. We just have to request a key each time.

There's a terraza with a table and chairs on the upper level. This is very useful for eating or using a laptop. I have to mention that the free wifi is very strong and reliable. It's a pleasure to use.

Rates are normally $500 MXP for a room for two to four persons, with two double beds. However, we were given a promotional rate of $400 MXP.

Downside: There is no closet, just a wall bracket for hangers.

The Mercado de la Merced is for us an outstanding attraction, almost across the street. There are numerous fondas or economic eating places, serving authentic Oaxacan meals. THere are four attractive stands selling freshly prepared juices. Of course, there are for sale meats, vegetables, fruits, cheeses, baked goods, etc.

The neighborhood also has small grocery stores, fruits and vegetable stores and two seafood restaurants, La Red, a few doors east of the Hotel, and El Muelle, around the corner, on Calle Nicolás del Puerto.

We would stay at Hotel El Rincón de Doña Bety when we are again in Oaxaca.
