Auberge Diaguili

The Auberge Diaguili provides relaxed accommodation in a pleasant part of Nouakchott.  The rooms are a good size, the bed was comfortable and everything was kept spotlessly clean.  Continental breakfast is served every morning and a good dinner was available four nights per week.  There is a kitchen available and you can make tea and coffee at any time.  No TV in the room but there is one in the communal lounge.  The manager, Pascal, was very helpful.  Free WiFi worked fine, but was sometimes a bit slow in the evenings.  The Auberge is popular with french-speaking visitors.

I can agree with the positive reviews written already. Spacious rooms with character, well maintained and clean. Lovely breakfast under a large tree, fresh bread and excellent croissants, fresh orange juice. Very conveniently located for many international agencies etc. Really good value for money. Highly recommended.
Note that if you want to eat at the auberge, you need to book in advance and they'll only cook if there is a certain number of guests joining the meal, so if you're on your own, you need to inquire. But no train smash, as there are various decent restaurants in walking distance.

A very nice, very clean and well run auberge in the middle of Nouakchott. Speaks French. Serves breakfast. It is close to good restaurants, and they can take you there.
Can arrange pickup in airport, or help you to get on the bus further on (north, south).
Highly recommend.

Fantastic little spot. The owner Pascal is amazing. He picked me up from the bus station late after coming from Chinguitti. Great dinner and conversation around the table. Rooms are big and the outdoor and indoor living areas are very nice to hang out in.

It was great to stay for one week at the Auberge Diaguili...The kindness and professional service offered were exceptionally good. Every night we could have a delicious dinner at the Auberge, good company, interesting and useful information to visit places in town, to get around...very fast internet connection. For the business traveller looking for a decent place to stay in Nouakchott and where to meet fellows on a mission, Auberge Diaguili is without any doubt the best place in the whole of Mauritania. It is not only very clean and good value for the 18000 UM/night but well maintained with spacious rooms equipped with a large desk (!), WiFi, A/C and bath room. The place is further continuously being improved and renovated. The only thing which I'd like to see changed is the lack of bed nets as the mosquitoes are quite a nuisance at night so you need to spray or use a repellent (also in the garden). Nadia's cooking skills (unfortunately only from Monday till Friday...) can compete with the best restaurants in town. Added to that the very professional reception by Pascal for whom no effort is too much to make you feel at home (such as transporting you to or from the airport in the middle of the night) and the friendly personnel Souleymane and Mamadou. Since 2012 I stayed four to six times a year at Diaguili. It is usually well occupied because it is THE place in Mauritania to meet other consultants, hear the latest inside information, share stories and make new friends. At least I did and I highly recommend Auberge Diaguili for your future trips to Mauritania. Meals are taken collectively on a long table in the garden in the shade of a large tree and in another corner a Khaima (Mauritanian tent) invites you to have a chat, drink a tea or read a book. A collective space on the ground floor is equipped with a large screen television, a billiard and tables to set up small meetings if you wish. Book well in advance as the good news is spreading rapidly!

I spent a total of 2 nights here, in 2 separate visits at the beginning & end of my time in Mauritania.  The owner/mgr is a great guy, however he's only around for a few hours in the morning & evenings.  This wouldn't be a big deal except that the other staff speak no English whatsoever, and they have no patience for those whose French is not that great.  It was frustrating as asking something as simple as the wifi password became an ordeal, and i resorted to asking another guest eventually.  I couldn't even get an answer to what time breakfast is served (its 8am).  I guess when the majority of guests are French, its not a problem.

Beyond that, it seems that every guest room is unique, and they are not all created equal.  That's good if you get a nice room, but miserable if you are assigned a bad room.  The AC in my first room did not work, and there was just 1 small window, with little lighting.  That meant the room was hot, stuffy and dark.  The 2nd room was the complete opposite in every way, with lots of windows, light and working AC.
