Recently, I had the pleasure of spending two nights at the IKOTEL in Ifaty. I would have stayed longer, but we were on business. The room was comfortable and clean and I slept well. The sunset was spectacular. In this short visits we did manage one tour guided excursion via zebu cart to see the beautiful  Baobabs  and other flora and fauna in the National Park across the road. The food at the IKOTEL is delicious and the serve is outstanding. I will return, if given another opportunity.

My friend and I spent three nights here at the beginning of our trip in Madagascar. I had arranged the room via email in advance. We were offered a choice of two bungalows when we arrived, one right on the beach with a double bed, or one slightly further back with two separate beds, which we took. The bungalows had a small living room with chairs and plug socket, a bathroom with solar-heated hot water and the bedroom contained a fan and mosquito nets, all very clean and well presented.
The staff were lovely, both the people we met could speak very good English, and our hostess was happy to arrange for vegetarian meals to be cooked for us very evening (which were DELICIOUS). This was the most expensive hotel we stayed at, though at around 75,000 Ar a night it was still pretty cheap!
It's quite secluded so there isn't much bother from the people on the beach trying to sell sarongs etc. though it is not far to walk to the village or along the beach to other hotels.
As we went in December there were no other tourists, in fact we didn't see anyone but locals for the entire three days. 
The view was absolutely incredible and the gardens are lovely, there are even fruit trees that attract mouse lemurs in the evening plus loads of birds visit.
The only tiny downside was when we got cocktails, one of them used honey rum which was unfortunately full of ants.

We stayed here the beginning of Dec., 2011 for several nights. Being the end of the tourist season, we found few other guests, except for a group of birdwatchers who came in while we were there. It was very quiet & peaceful! We found it a good way to end our 18 days in Madagascar! The only disadvantage was the road from Tulear to Ifaty...but it was an adventure!

I can only echo what has been said before: comfortable bungalows right by the beach. The rooms could do with more than the 1 power outlet that they have. Very friendly staff too.

There is a wifi connection (only useful for checking mail etc.) in the adjacent hotel.

Ikotel is more secluded and private than a lot of the hotels along Ifaty Beach. Our room was lovely and the food and service at the hotel were quite good. Our room was spacious and the view, superb. The only quibble I could possibly have is that the rooms do not have room safes. This would make them perfect. Each room is really a suite, with a large sitting area, plus a bedroom. One nice feature of this place is that they are far enough out of the way so that guests don't get inundated by beach vendors. If you like a bit of solitude, without being too far out of the way, this is place is perfect! The rates are also a bit less than a lot of the others, so the value for money is definitely there.
