Hotel La Marina

Central location, great service, great value, and free WiFi.  The restaurant is simple yet delicious.  Breakfast included of eggs and toast.  Or try the Malagasy breakfast: vary soasoa with katoza (rice soup with steak).  Mmmm good.

Stayed a week. Very large room, and could see ocean and sun rise from terrace outside room. Food in restaurant was amongst the best we experienced around FDF, although the setting and lighting is a little stark. The hotel is old style architecture, no frills, but warm and friendly staff. The ocean side of the hotel is above a couple of local farms and houses - the dogs bark at night and the cocks crow in the morning - I was totally fine with this but a colleague found it disturbing. Rooms on the rear side of the hotel are quiet.

I was part of a group that spent 5 days in Fort Dauphin for a work trip, and our base was Hotel Lamarina.  It was a great stay - the rooms (while certainly not luxurious) were clean, comfortable and safe.  Mosquitoes were not an issue, and anyway, beds had netting and there were screens on the windows.  Wifi was decent, the water was hot, and the mini bar was well stocked.  What more do you need?

We ate breakfast regularly in the restaurant, and while not very inspiring, it was good.  Same could be said for dinner.

We also had a number of meetings in the restaurant, and the staff were very accommodating in all ways.  There was a small hiccup with the credit card machine on checkout - I hope this got fixed.  

I would gladly return.

Basic, but still one of the better ones in FDF

Nice place to spend some time

La Marina is a modest hotel located centre ville in FTD.  There are two types of room sizes and all fitted with air-conditioning, mosquito nets, window fly screens and TV.  The rooms are comfortable and clean. The restaurant is 'ok' but there are enough alternatives within walking distance such as Filao or Le Dauphin.  Barking dogs from housing next door is highly irritating and a problem. It's okay if your on business with no bad enough reasons to reject as an option.
