I ensured photo coverage of UNFPA interactive conference on multilateralism at Hotel Paon d'Or. This hotel deserves its five stars. The Wi-Fi is high speed. The food served has become much better. The conference rooms are well lit and well equipped. The rooms are spacy and comfortable. I particularly the slate ground that prevents dust.

Me and my friend stayed in a villa in Le Paon D’Or.  A strange experience.  Our airport driver drove us to reception and spoke to the reception host who sent us to a villa. We were a bit confused because we thought it was a hotel with a reception desk with a restaurant, with individual rooms having bathrooms. There was a man living in the villa we were assigned to who has been here for 2 months with no other residents, and we felt that we were in his house. He was very nice, and I am not sure he knew we were coming. We were confused because we thought he was a hotel reception host/worked for the hotel and we had questions that he could not answer. He spoke some English, but we realized he was not working with the hotel and was just trying to be helpful. We didn’t know where to eat dinner after our flight and we usually ate dinners at the hotel restaurants so we didn’t eat dinner.  The bathroom in the room had no towels, soap, toilet paper, shampoo, etc. and was clearly not ready for guests. Our roommate did his best to give us supplies, but I felt we were taking his towels and such. We felt like we were intruding on him. I would definitely not recommend this hotel. 
It is Chinese owned and although the villas are nice, the service was utterly non-existent. 
Regardless, this was a very confusing and awkward experience. We are very glad we are leaving first thing in the morning and we happened to have had a couple of snack bars handy to eat.
I would not recommend staying here at all, especially after reading other reviews.

Very Weird. Not recommended.

The hotel is operated by Chinese proprietors who are obviously still in construction mode. One gets the feeling that they are building the property for sale... There's very little attention paid to actually running a hotel and making guests happy.

My room felt like it hadn't been used in a while and someone had done a hasty job of cleaning it up just before I got in. There was dust in the corners and a musty smell. I had no towels in the room. The phones were not working and my room was a brisk 6 minutes walk from reception, I had to walk to reception twice before they finally got me towels.

Breakfast closes at 9am. I walked in a few minutes later and I was told they couldn't help me. I couldn't even pay for a meal. No one was helpful. They couldn't even direct me to a local restaurant for an alternative.

I understand that this is a French speaking country and that English will not be commonplace, but surely some level of proficiency would be demanded of staff at an establishment that hopes to cater to tourists. Signs and directions are in Chinese or French, and most times no one can help you.

Even simple things like WiFi are a problem. Though one can tell that they have the hardware to manage it, access point names are random and coverage in the rooms is sporadic. My room was not covered.

On the plus side they have a nice pool and tennis court, and the massage spa was worth a visit, but overall I wouldn't come back. There are better places nearby. 

They don't understand hospitality. 

Very Nice property and are rooms near the airport..Everything is closed including restaurant by 8pm..There are no elevators..You will have to carry your own luggage to your Villa and carry it up and down the stairs... Staff Extremely polite and professional.BUT the only reason to go to this city is because you have BUSINESS there..

Very Chinese looking hotel as you arrive but pleasant interior as you walk through the hotel. The hotel looks like it was certainly built by the Chinese to cater for a predominantly Chinese market. The villas surrounding the hotel look quite pleasant.
