This place is all you really need. We were unexpectedly upgraded to a Western room, rather than the Japanese tatami style room. This meant that we had beds (rather than mats on the floor) and a shower, rather than having to use the onsen. This place is right next to (bordering with) the central bus terminal which was very helpful when we arrived and left. It is also only a couple of minutes walk from the 'main street' and loads of eating options. About a 10 minute uphill walk to Nagasaka Gondola.

Breakfast was very traditionally Japanese, so we opted to eat our own in our room rather than the $7 AUD/pp brekky. The staff have quite minimal English, but get by okay. The onsen was pretty small and old looking so we didn't use it (which was sad, as it is something I usually enjoy). No wifi in the room which was annoying, had to go down to lobby/lounge area to get online. Will stay here again next time.


All we needed - good value for money

We can only give our recommendation for this hotel. It is an old family hotel, serving both breakfast and dinner. The hotel has seen better days, with some of the facilities appearing a bit worn and dated. At the same time it is run by a very helpful family, and although they were not fluently English speaking, they made us feel very welcome. 

We were travelling as a famility with two kids and were provided with a room sufficiently large for all of us and including bath and toilet. Only thing we did not like so much was that our room was partly heated with kerosene. We later found out that many restaurants and bars were indeed heated with kerosene, which makes it a bit less unusual. In the end we managed to heat the room without the kerosene heater.

In conclusion, if you wish to stay at a classic small Japanese hotel, Ikemoto may be something for you. Even though part of the facilities in the hotel may have seen better days, we were pleased with our stay, also considering the good location next to the city center and the bus stop, the reasonable price for the room and not least the homely feel provided to the place by the family.

Classic Japanese Famility-run Hotel

Our room is comfortable, but slightly shabby. Traditional but not well maintained. Kind of like your well-to-do grandmas house. Classy, but she can't reach the ceiling to swipe away the cobwebs anymore. The onsen bath is extraordinarily hot, with the ability to pipe in cold water as needed. Traditional yukata (robes) are provided, and tea and biscuits are provided in the room. It feels like a visit with friends. Our hostess speaks some English. The location is very good, only a few minutes walk from skiing, public baths, restaurants and bars. 

Traditional experience 

We really enjoyed our stay here - a traditional family run hotel, with in house onsens and hosts that are really hospitable. As others have said, the heaters take some getting used to and it is very quiet at night, but that is all part of the charm. 

We would stay here again!

Lovely traditional stay in Nozawa

Traditional ryuken. Heater is not adjustable and comes after 7am to about 9am and same at night 7-9pm . inside the inn onsen is boiling hot and very small. Breakfast is set menu where they serve everything cold if you don't come on time. And even then its just warmish. Ie : ashbrown. Fried eggs,slice of ham, bacon. And more food all cold. Very convenient next to the bus station in Nozawa. Hosts are great and helpful. . walls are thin so be ready to be woken up early by other guests walking or talking.
