Overall, it was satisfactory for staying a night. The twin room was cozy with wide two soft beds and a balcony, which was great for having morning tea. 5 min. walk from the Towada Lake, JR bus station. Owner & Owner's family was so kind and considerate that I would like to visit again.

Great little place with simple accommodations. The owner is such a friendly guy, we felt very welcomed. The room was simple but comfortable. Great kitchen facilities and nice breakfast included. Would definitely stay again!

enjoyed our stay here. Location is convenient. General store is nearby. Towadako Lake is beautiful. Good hiking trails around.

I loved the place as it gives a lot of freedom, people can order food or cook on their own, it is very friendly and I would go back anytime!

We stayed here for 2 nights in mid Oct.  There were 7 of us.  3 in one room and 4 in another.  My husband and I shared a room with another couple as they run out of couple rooms.  Surprisingly it was fully booked.  It was our first stay at a backpacker.   

Overall, I find that the rooms are decent and comfortable.  It comes with simple toast/eggs breakfast and curry rice dinner included in the room rates.  The toilet facilities is simple and their wifi works fine.  The other guests were also pretty friendly and the host was helpful and entertaining.  

Every evening, we walked about 5-8 mins to the hotel next door for the Onsen.  I think they charged JPY500 per pax/per entry.  Do remember to bring your own towels there as they do not provide any.    

The surrounding areas was quiet and nice.  On the 2nd day, we took the local bus up the mountains to trek and took a ferry down the lake.  The scenery was breathtaking.  The ferry station was about 10 mins walk from the backpackers place.  

Overall, I managed my own expectations and enjoyed my stay there!

From  ferry terminal, cross the road and walk towards the JR bus terminal. Walk ahead straight for about 5 mins and you will see hotel Towada. Continue to walk straight and can see the backpackers already. Room is simple with 2 beds, a heater and nothing else. The 2 shower room are downstairs. Each floor has a male and female toilet. Bath towel is charged at 100 yen and face towel 50 yen. Common kitchen and you can boil water at the kitchen. You can reserved a beef curry rice at 600 yen or a barayaki (beef) rice at 1000 yen for dinner. The town is quite dead after dark. Staff is friend though. To walk to the statue of maidens is about 20 mins. 

I stayed here for three nights while travelling around tohoku area. I had a car and it was a two hour drive from Aomori airport through the winding mountain roads to Towada. 
The hostel room i stayed in was the female dorm. The cost was ¥2500 per night (very cheap). It comprised of three bunkbeds in a small room. There was a sliding connecting door leading to more bunkbeds in an adjacent room. Clean bedding, comfortable bed and some netting privacy curtains on all the beds. 
When i checked in the lady at the desk couldn't speak much English but she was very friendly and tried hard to understand me. 
The first evening I ate at their small canteen area. I had the beef curry and rice and it was very delicious. Reasonable value too. Incidentally this is also where a free breakfast of cereal, toast and tea/coffee is served in the morning. 
There are two shower rooms that can be used by male or female (they lock inside) and a set of toilets for each too. They were kept clean throughout my stay. The only negative i had with the bathrooms were that there was no soap in the toilets. Very unhygienic. So ensure you have some of your own soap with you. 
Towels, toothbrushes etc can all be bought or rented at the property via an honesty box system.
There are no lockers or places to store valuables so keep them on you at all times. The front door was not locked on a night to allow guests to come and go at they please. 
The area was very peaceful and had lots of opportunities for walking and visiting the lake. I would recommend visiting the local shrine too if you visit. 
All in all the backpackers guesthouse was a very pleasant stay. If i returned to Towada i would use it again.

Heavy rain so he offered to drive us to a nearby restaurant. 
The next day I saw a poster in the hostel. "Great view of lake one minute by car. " I asked if if it was a 10 min walk.  No, 30 minutes uphill!  But he said he would drive us.  He then went round other guests asking if anyone else wanted to go till his people carrier was full.  Sunny morning and marvellous view. 
Place has everything but looks dated and a bit dreary  but I can forgive all the negatives due to him being willing to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. 
Also sells tickets to onsen at hotel just down the road  ¥350 instead of ¥500. Worth it.
