Our stay at Residence Railway apartments in Bologna, Italy exceeded our expectations. We were placed in Apartment 2 which was an excellent value for our money. It was surprisingly spacious and had all the amenities we needed. Separate bedroom, bathroom, living room, kitchen and entryway spaces. Comfortable bed with wonderful pillows and plenty of storage for clothing. The bedroom was so quiet too! We never heard any outside noise. The living room had a dining table and full sized couch and TV with connections to Netflix, etc. We cooked several meals with the amenities provided in the full sized kitchen which helped to lower our travel budget. The bathroom was also really large. Location is extremely convenient to the Bologna Centrale train station and several grocery stores. We were so happy with our stay and recommend it highly for those on a budget and not needing to stay in the very center of the city. It was super convenient and comfortable for us. We hope it will be for you too!

Exceeded expectations!

Very well-appointed, spacious apartment situated close to the station and a 15-minute walk to town centre.

Bologna 4-day visit

Location is a plus!! Easy access to the train station, bus stop and walking landmarks. The apartment was cozy enough,  we cooked, made breakfast with coffee and enjoy our time in Bologna. Unfortunately after our long days sightseeing we really need it a good warm shower. Our shower faucet had poor water pressure and the water was either freezing cold or super hot. Just FYI, maybe management can figure it out for next guests.

We had a wonderful 4-night at Apartment 1 of Residence Railway in Bologna. Everything is impeccably clean and the attention to detail is impressive. I loved how they thoughtfully provided everything we needed — from the utensils to the dishwashing liquid to the laundry detergent. The place is super close to Bologna Centrale and some good restaurants and grocery stores. Daniel was also warm and friendly. Would have been perfect if it weren’t for that 1 day that the elevator wasn’t working, but it is still a wonderful place to stay overall. 

Almost Perfect!

If you want to spend few days in Bologna (1 hour by train from Firenze) you may choose Residence Railway properties. The Zuchinni Apartment close to city center and to Central Station (10 minutes walking) was nice, clean, cosy, with a smart TV and Apple TV, free WiFi. The team managing the properties is great!

Nice apartment close to Bologna center

We stayed towards the end of May and I wonder if there was something on in Bologna, we booked late and all accommodation was pricey, I would have given 5* had it not been for the cost but this may just have reflected a scarcity of availability.

It is well situated if, like us, you are driving to your accommodation as it is close to the station just outside the historic centre. There is a small hourly rate car park outside the front door for unloading and an underground car park at the station 5 minutes walk away. There is an easy, and pleasant walk down into the old town centre, along galleries and past a street market. 

The English staff were very helpful on the day of our arrival and texted us to organise the rendezvous outside the apartment block. They had a good and convenient key and payment system. They have a local office and there was a comprehensive information folder and maps inside the apartment. Although we didn't need them I am confident had we asked for help it would have been provided.

The flat was clean, and spacious, almost everything in the flat worked, the exception being the air conditioning but this may have been because our second night there was the first warm night of the year and it hadn't been turned on. I particularly appreciated the complimentary coffee and I enjoyed the lift, reminded me of my childhood.

Its just around the corner from the highly rated Trattoria di Via Serra but it was booked up for the time we were staying, worth trying to get a reservation if you are planning ahead, we ended up eating at the local La Corte dei Ghiottoni for two nights which was lovely.

Helpful staff, convenient location especially if driving

Conveniently situated next to Bologna central railway station. The building itself is quite difficult to find, the entrance being located on a different street than the one provided. The appartement is large and comfortable enough but there is a big problem with the bathroom & shower arrangements. The water pressure is very low and the temperature control is not working, so you end up with alternating icy cold and sometimes scalding hot water. Plus no shower curtain or glass barrier, so you also end up with a flooded and slippery floor. The faucet of the sink is broken and spills water under the sink too. All in all very unpleasant and a hazard for falls. The area is a bit bleak, especially at night. There are a few good restaurants nearby & a convenience store on the next street. But this area of town is not pleasant for late walks (trash cans, isolated, loitering). Also be warned that taxi companies have no idea where this place is, be very careful with late night transfers to airport, or you’ End up stranded there.

Great apartment close to city centre. Also very close to train station.Host (Salvatore) was extremely helpful.

An absolute gem: super clean, modern, well appointed with washing machine and excellent shower. Our welcoming host represented this property with warmth and good detail.  We appreciated experiencing this property as it met all our travel needs as our 1st time in Bologna. The walk to train station is a bit tricky. There is a new area and older one according to your travels. Took a tour balsamic, parmesan, prosciutto  and Ferrari museum...a joy!

Thank you Andrea for a warm welcome outside the apartment.  We are glad you found us, as the apartment was a little difficult to find as the address does not reflect where it is.

We booked this apartment because of the exceptional reviews it has had.  It was very clean and tidy for its age.   The bed was supremely comfortable.  The apartment was very handy to the railway station and an easy 15 minute walk to Piazza Maggiore.

However generally we were disappointed as the apartment was showing quite an amount of wear and tear and would benefit from a renovation.  Some of the furnishings were damaged or stained.

After our first night we had a lovely email from our host asking us how our night had been.  We mentioned that the kitchen sink did not deliver any hot water.  Apparently this was because there were workmen elsewhere in the building.  I could not understand how building work 5 floors below could affect the kitchen sink and not the bathroom basin (as it was working perfectly).  It appeared to affect the shower too, as the hot water there was intermittent during a shower.  My husband (who has an extensive plumbing background), suggested in our email to them, it was possibly the ceramic cartridge in the kitchen tap that was failing.
During our stay, the dishwasher failed. Our hosts were very prompt in having it repaired (on a Sunday).  But still did not address the hot water issue.
