The Maiersdorf Faculty Club at the Mt. Scopus campus of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem that overlooks the Old City takes parts in numerous festivities such as Board of Governors Meetings and official dinners, Fellowship ceremonies for students and special visits of Head of States and congresses and workshops of faculty members and visiting professors and students alike.

In the Division for Advancement and External Relations, Nathalie Elkaim is the director of ceremonies and special events of which there are many at the club. Nathalie is the queen of organization of each event whether is for a small or a huge group of people, dealing with the decoration, the catering, the music performances, flower arrangement & tables with the specific colors that suit the occasion and all this with a great charm and attention for each detail, individual or group together with only a handful persons as staff.

It is a pleasure to just look how she moves among the invitees with a smile, a nice word, a quick photo moment and the telephone that connects her with the kitchen, the serving staff and anyone who has to be reminded to be where at the moment she/he has to be at the right spot.

The Hebrew University has had over the past years a diamond on its premises that shines over its academic ceremonies and events and Nathalie will hopefully continue this work for many years in what she knows best: Being the perfect hostess of the Maiersdorf Faculty club.

Basic but comfortable rooms (which are a bit of a throwback to the 70's in Israel!)  Great coffee shop/restaurant downstairs with good coffee and food pretty much all day.  Can't beat the views from the restaurant patio of the city.  Parking and access are really difficult.

formally it's a small hotel for the guests of the hebrew universit, but if they have rooms available they will be happy to host also other guests.
there is also a restaurant, where you can have the famous big israeli breakfast.
in the cafeteria you can have good coffee and cake or sandwich, to enjoy the beautiful terrace that has the most beautiful view of jerusalem.

I stayed here as part of a two-week seminar I attended. If you need to be at Hebrew University, this is a terrific location. If you want to be able to do things in the heart of Jerusalem, it's not convenient (although there are buses and the light rail). It's about a 40 NIS ride to get to anywhere fun for dinner or nightlife.

The rooms are extremely small and spartan. The two narrow beds are pushed together to make a double-sized bed. I had no roommate, but that would have been a little awkward if I had. There was a rickety flatscreen TV in the room (the remote for which had to be signed for when I checked in), but it didn't work when I tried to turn it on, and I was too tired to care.

There is a refrigerator in the room. I did not find a hairdryer. I imagine the front desk had one, but I brought a travel one so I didn't really care. The bathroom did not have any kind of electric outlet, so I ended up using the mirror in the room to blow dry. Speaking of outlets - there are plenty in the room and they're very accessible. There were two right by the beds, making nighttime phone charging really easy.

The room AC worked great - so great that I had to turn the temp up. One thing - I totally forgot that Israeli hotels don't provide top sheets (like Europe), so I ended up having to use the duvet and comforter, which was a little warm for the summer. I also forgot that Israeli hotels don't like to provide washcloths. What's with that?

The breakfast was okay. Nothing special, and nothing close to what nicer hotels in Jerusalem provide. Wifi was free (the free university network), but it was pretty anemic in the room.

The staff was terrific. They arranged for late checkout, made a sandwich for a fellow traveler who arrived too late for lunch service, and provided directions whenever necessary.

If you're arriving by cab, I would suggest calling the hotel and finding out exactly how the cab should get you there. It's not really accessible from the street - it's better for the cab to drop you off in the parking lot. It's unusual. I didn't get that figured out before I flew in and now I think there's a cab driver in Tel Aviv who pretty much hates me.
