It was a really nice hostel, staff were very friendly and I met very nice people the only problem is I think they should be more strict with the rooms ! I booked into a 6 female dormitory for a reason! And there was a girl who was sharing our room who was bringing a fella into our bathroom to have sex with him morning, noon and night and they were very loud! They woke people up because of it ! And I personally felt really awkward in the room.. and I try to dodge the room as much as possible ! It was soo disrespectful on every girl that was staying in that room !I think yous should be more strict on the rooms because people are staying there at the end of the day and they should be able to feel comfortable!

The room

This is one of the best hostels in Galway, Great location, Great clean rooms and a common area with plenty of activites for those rainy afternoons.

Staff were very helpful, the only unfortunate thing is it closed on Sunday or we would have stayed longer

Great Stay

Stayed in the 8 bed mixed dorm, it was a shoebox, no room to wrap a towel around you. And there was no air con. 
Apart from that, good location, decent enough breakfast and a comfy enough bed.
Would recommend for a short stay (1 night) 

Tin can

The staff is really helpful, smiling and kind.
The place is very clean and you would like to stay in it all day.
It's located on the other side of the city center 10 mn away but it's good for a long walk. you can find nice cafés nearby and the bus station is few minutes away

I took my initial review down  to add one major (to me) point, and a couple of other minor ones to the initial review. 
The major point: The first thing I noticed at the Savoy is that there are no recycling bins, no hint that recycling should or indeed can, take place. I was shocked by that: how can a place that generates plenty of waste ignore the importance of recycling?

 After my first review posting,  the manager responded by defending his decisions with some asperity. He said that I had not complained directly to him and that I "talked over him" when I did complain-- and that no one else has complained. 

In fact, I had several times asked the desk persons on duty to do something about the intrusive music in the common room. As to  "talking over" him: no, but I did resist mightily when HE interrupted ME, by continuing to say what I was saying. I was raised to believe that interrupting is bad manners and allowing someone to interrupt puts one on the social high road, but in the face of his rudeness, I was willing to stretch a point.

Didn't Enjoy That

My experience in hostel hopping around Ireland on busses is that getting something central is value for money. Let’s face it, if your here you want to see stuff, be able to access it easily & not have to travel for ages to get to the Sites. I arrived on a bus & the hostel is easy walking distance, which is great when carrying a backpack at 61 years old!! Reception staff were welcoming & helpful. I stayed in a 6 bed female dorm this time & there’s a roomy bathroom inside the room - bonus!! The beds are comfortable & the pillows are friendly - how delightful!! What struck me when I first arrived, was the mobility assistance chair to help people negotiate the stairs. Iv never seen this before in a hostel! So people who have mobility difficulty can easily go up to the dorms & down to the social kitchen & breakfast eats! 5 stars for that alone. The carpet is very colourful - inviting for some, gregarious for others. It’s not tartan though. This accomodation is close to most things in the city of Galway. I booked 2 nights originally, then extended -  & got a wee discount so that’s always good. Breakfast is included - cereal & yogurt & tinned fruit with toast & real coffee!

I’m sorry you didn’t like the savoy but you didn’t like Galway either. Im in the photo you posted without asking me. That’s ok. I’ve returned to the savoy for 6 years. And regularly meet other people doing the same. Yes there are new staff who are still learning. But I have always been very looked after. One returning person actually commented on liking the music. I hope you feel better and your beliefs strengthen you

Loricovi I don’t agree

A very beautiful and neatly maintained hostel right in the city centre. It’s bright and colourful and has a common room with kitchen and pool table. The dorm rooms are neatly maintained too. Bathrooms are clean. 

Neat and well maintained.

Easy check in, good facilities and generally clean. Some guests brought plates and food into the rooms which were left there overnight. Also some guests being very loud at 3am in the supposedly quiet area, when there is a common room downstairs. Staff need to enforce the rules to ensure comfort for all guests. Rooms a little warm and stuffy but much better than most hostels, comfortable beds, storage lockers and plugs/reading lights/usb at each bed.

Good facilities, close to old town pubs

After hearing about the rental accommodation shortage in Galway, I decided to book in for a 2 week stay at the Savoy. As an incoming student from abroad, I wanted a place that was at first cheap, and second, clean and comfortable enough to allow me to withstand a two week stay while I searched the city for a permanent place to live. As this was my first time in a hostel, I was a tad apprehensive; however, I was pleasantly surprised. I found the Savoy to be clean, comfortable and much quieter than expected. The communal areas were clean and never overcrowded, while there was always ample room to store food, cook and wash/dry my clothes (important given my lengthy stay). The staff were very friendly and always on hand to assist and the other guests were nearly always considerate. Not only would I recommend the Savoy for incoming travelers, but also for anyone wishing to find alternative longer-term living arrangements if their options in the rental market are running dry.
