Cong Hostel

We arrived to a warm welcome from the owner(I think her name was Margaret). We were pleased to see there were snacks like bars and ice cream available in the reception. The glamping tent we had ordered was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. The showers were free, clean and warm(we had to pay 2e for a towel which was no problem). We biked to the campsite but decided to get a lift home so we asked if we could leave our bikes and bags while we toured around the village and surrounding areas(which are very walkable. Would recommend bringing hi-vis jackets if you'll be walking late). This was no problem and when we collected them later we were given a lovely farewell. The owners have definitely made an effort to take care of everything and I would highly recommend the campsite :)

Camped here last August. The family running the campsite couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The facilities were spot on and the kids really enjoyed the playground. Will absolutely be back this summer.

Great Campsite

We was family trip and and stay for night in hostel, haves room with bathroom. Floors was not clean, bathroom too. Beds was good. Good kitchen area and dining room. Very good location near Ashford castle and Cong village. Good free parking.

Family trip

We arrived at reception at about 3pm to be checked in by a girl in her pyjamas who said she was studying!  She told us all the grass touring areas were unavailable as it had been raining (not an unusual occurrence in Ireland) and we had to park on the road at the top of the site, which overlooked the graveyard.  We noticed the usual pitches behind us were all surrounded by huge leyllandi hedges, so no outlook at all.  All the facilities are in the building at the entrance to the site, the laundry is OK but locked at 6pm even if any machines are in use, not cheap at 6 euro for a wash and the same to dry.  The toilets and showers are next to the kitchen/dining room and the whole building stank of some very pungent fish.  The ladies is a very small room into which are crammed 4 showers, 3 sinks and 3 toilets.  One toilet door wouldn't lock and two had no paper.  All the shower floors were muddy and there was no mop or bucket, so very glad I went in my crocs.  The showers are hot, but the shower curtain was not wide or high enough so the whole of the small area was soaked, and the only hook was right beside the curtain.  I went back to the motorhome in wet clothes feeling dirtier than when I left it. As usual the Quiet Man  film was being shown that evening, but I couldn't face going back into that building to see it. The walk into town is a good mile and the walk to the lake seems a lot more than the half mile it claims to be.  This site is more like a very basic backpackers hostel, we only stayed one night and couldn't wait to leave.

Worst site of our trip

Cong is a beautiful village and the locals are really warm and friendly. However this hostel a must to avoid. Other than the fact that you have to pay to use the showers, a creepy Englishman lingered about the place and some of the bed sheets had semen stains on them.
