Saraswati Holiday House

As our previously booked accommodation near Lovina suffered from the noise of a huge building site we had to move and came to ‘Saraswati’ at short notice. And we couldn’t have been more fortunate to find this substitute! The well-kept premises of Saraswati Holiday House (consisting of two Balinese-style bungalows for guests and the family home of the German and Balinese owners) is situated next to a small river (where I spotted my first Balinese kingfisher! :o) amidst a beautiful lush garden with a pool and two bamboo gazebos. Futhermore, right between the two bungalows there is a small building that serves as a kitchen with basic equipment and one fridge for each bungalow where your daily breakfast is being stored to be prepared by yourself (without being dependent on breakfast times!) – by the way, the breakfast is really great! Apart from breakfast basics such as toast, jam, honey and eggs it consists of a huge bowl of a changing variety of fresh fruit and home-backed bread. Even though the grounds are not that huge we found it quite amazing how we always had someone to talk to if we had questions such as the rental of a scooter, arranging for a driver, a restaurant recommendation etc. but otherwise felt absolutely private and undisturbed. Various Restaurants are only two streets away (we recommend Warung Bali9 and Warung Made), the centre of Lovina is about 15 minutes by foot. We stayed for one week, made some excursions but we were rarely at the sea (3 Minutes by foot) because we enjoyed the tropical garden so much - and, to be honest, found it very hard to leave thanks to Burgel, her family and the always friendly and helpful but completely unobtrusive staff.
