Good ropms with high quality. foods are in good quality. Sea foods are fresh and  tasty. room services are good and available  for  24hrs. Surrounding  environment are good and pleasant environment. water quality  is  good.

They originally asked for double the amount for the room which was way overpriced, but we got it down to half the amount in the end.  Room was OK, but basic & fairly clean. The major problem was they didn't have a generator & it was unbelievably hot when the electricity kept cutting out so we just stayed the one night. The majority of guesthouses here do have generators so I have no idea why these guys don't. 

I'd say it's OK for one night, but wouldn't recommend staying any longer.

I had lunch at the restaurant downstairs which was nice & it's a much nicer setting than Moonrakers (under the same management) right across the street.

this is my second time in mamallapuram .. the owner is a very angry person and he beat is staff and is custamer and he is very rich guy. is brother is very big politicion so no problem what he want  can do this place and food is very expensive same price like a five star hotel. and the staff cheat you becarefull and one guy i konw long time he is from kerala is brother send him to jail last time but now the same guy working like a slave  thats i dont understand.

i dont understand

Once I had a room there, everything was fine and the room was good.  But that was the end of 24 hours of lies and bad service.

Knowing I was arriving late in the evening in Mamallapuram on Pongal weekend, I called two days ahead and was assured they'd hold an AC room for me.  I even booked a pickup at the train station, which I rarely do, to ensure my late arrival wouldn't screw me.  On my train from Kolkata to Channai, I called twice to tell them I was a few hours late and they said no problem.

When I arrived, the driver was there, but his car was terrible and we stalled about 30 times in what should have been a 40 minute drive.  On arrival, I was told they don't have a room for me.  I was given 3 different stories by 3 different people, all seemed sketchy.  They gave me miserably musty and non AC room with a loud and slow fan at their sister guesthouse for the night.  The next day, almost every decent place in town was fully and I finally moved in to the Blue Elephant.

The room itself was clean and the AC worked well.  As a traveler's lodge, they don't clean or change the sheets or anything but will if you ask.  I will say it took me 3 requests to actually get a towel and a topsheet the first night...expected at a 200 rupee place but not for 800!  The room was your basic guesthouse box with zero character but that wasn't important to me.

As it turns out, the Manager's a decent fellow but doesn't do anything to control his staff. If you get the wrong person, don't trust them.  If you get a kid named Abi, DO trust him - he's the only reason I got the room the next day and the only guy who gave me the true answer about my disappearing room the night before.

Decent place, crappy service

We stayed here for two nights in December 2010, our first stop on a trip around Tamil Nadu.  Our room was big and spotlessly clean, with a fan but no a/c.  We ate a couple of meals in the restaurant downstairs and found it quite patchy in terms of food quality and service.  The Moonraker across the road was a better bet, although they are owned by the same family.
