Periyar Green Homestay (Bed & Breakfast) is an absolute gem in Kumily. Its location is a nature lover's dream, nestled right by the jungle with a sprawling balcony that offers breathtaking views of a lush valley filled with trees – a haven for birdwatchers. 

We were treated to frequent visits by Indian Grey Hornbills and our luck extended to spotting the elusive black monkey (Nilgiri langur) and the famous and rare Indian giant squirrel.

Now, let me tell you about the hosts, Binu and Leha. They're the kind of people who make you feel right at home, incredibly friendly and always ready to lend a hand. Leha is a wonderful cook and Binu is a reliable driver who's there whenever you need him.

The room itself is spacious, and the bed is very comfortable. I had the best three nights of sleep.

Without a doubt, I wholeheartedly recommend Periyar Green Homestay. It's undoubtedly one of Kumily's finest homestays, offering a serene and peaceful escape for nature enthusiasts. We're already planning our return.

An absolute gem in Kumily

We were so lucky to choose this place to stay. A lovely, quiet, safe location in a little bit of jungle and spice a few kilometres out of Kumily. Luckily, Binu is also an auto rickshaw driver and is at your disposition for wherever you wish to go. (all for next to nothing cost). Binu and his wife Laika cook great typically local dishes for breakfast and dinner for an authentic experience. Binu is also the perfect guide and suggest the best things to do and visit. We could not have done better.

A wonderful family

One of the best places I have ever stayed. Not only in India, but in all Asia. Binu and his wife took care of me like I was part of their family. Binu even took me to his brother's housewarming party and neighbor's wedding! 

The homestay is very clean. The views are great, especially from the room on the second floor.

And please do not eat anywhere else if you stay there. Food here is great, and, again, very safe. I did not have any problems for several weeks eating here. 

Binu and his wife grow a lot of staff by themselves in the garden. Even coffee you drink is done from the coffee beans from the garden! If you go there ask Binu about local plants and vegetables, he is very knowledgeable man.

Amazing family and clean and safe place

We planned to stay two nights and ended up staying 10 days because it was so nice! We enjoyed the delicious food, the beautifull garden full of fruit and the senic surrouding with tea- and coconutplantages. But it is the family and their warm and kind hospitality that makes it so special here. We had lots of fun cooking and talking with them. Most wonderfull stay in India

This is the first Home Stay I have opted for in all my travels and was quite comfortable with the stay . The rooms are nice and clean and are surrounded by spice plantations and large trees . The temperature was slightly lower(GOOD) when compared with the city center (which is around 5 KMs) from this place. I think they have to probably improve on their menu to include good variety and mix of recipes that is more universal in tastes which may help them to scale up.

Nice cosy stay

I stayed here for approx. 1 week and this place is so wonderful in all aspects. First of all the owner and his familly was so friendly i felt like i am at home all the time. The home made food was so delicious! I was  in 2nd floor, had my own room and bathroom. Everything was clean and neat. I loved that the wiev in my balcony was amazing, those lush green trees and birds. I recommend this place for someone who likes nature, peace and silence. Because its a place where you can relax from busy streets, dust and noise. Very near (7mins) from this place is amazing panoramic view.
The owner also offered me to show more beautiful places around and i enjoyed it so much!
Recommend this place, you will have the most amazing experience of Kerala life.

Wonderful place to stay

I loved it in every sense: a beautiful, calm and peaceful homestay surrounded by nature. A spacious and clean room with a balcony with a view onto the green jungle garden. A litle out of town, but no problem as the kind Binu will take you where ever you need to go in his tuktuk.The family was lovely, very warm, welcoming and helpful with any information or advice I needed. They looked after every need I had and kept me company with many interesting conversations about native wildlife and plants or about life and culture in Kerala. Sri Leikha is an excellent cook, she prepared very nice breakfasts and lunch/dinner on request. I even had a some dancing class with their adult daughter Adhira.....I really enjoyed my stay there a lot and can recommend it warmly to everyone who loves nature and likes to meet local people. A wonderful homestay and family, that left me with lovely and dear memories.

Green and peaceful homestay with a lovely family

First of all big thanks to the owner .. it is such an amazing experience to stay in there house...our room was on 1st floor. Very neat and clean.. very nice rooms.
