We have stayed in Velvet Sunset for one week, and our trip was just AMAZING! We lived in the front beach hut, so we could enjoy the INCREDIBLE BEAUTIFUL sunrises and sunsets. The location is just amazing, the stuff is SUPER FRIENDLY, and the owners - are GREAT! They have helped us with renting bike, and also have recommended all the most popular and interesting places around. The room was clean and neat, we have had all the necessary stuff inside. And because of that our trip and staying in Velvet Sunset was really great! 

While Agonda isn't most famous all-night party location in Goa, it is a one of the most beautiful and relaxing places. The velvet sunset resort is located at the north end of beach so it is one of the most quiet places around the beach, but still close enough to walk anywhere in Agonda/around the beach.

We stayed here–for the second time already–over new year 2017/2018 and had a wonderful time. 
The huts are very clean and the beds were the most comfortable ones during our entire trip, but probably the best were the bathrooms: Taking a shower under the open sky felt just great.
Also, from the huts next to the beach you will experience an amazing sunrise/set while sitting in front of your hut (and even from the other huts it is at most 30 second walk to the beach and sunrise/sunset)!
The food and cocktails in the cafe/restaurant was amazing and we really had to force ourselves to eat out. 
Hope to come back one day!


This is an amazing place in south of goa. Agonda is one of the best beaches in Goa, and this resort is right by the beach. The view is amazing and the rates are also reasonable. We didnnt eat there so cant comment on the food. Overall a great place ti stay in south goa

Just returned from a relaxing week staying at Velvet Sunset at end of our trip to Southern India. We had one of the four beach fronted rooms which were very nice; comfortable bed, open shower/bathroom (but only cold water) and verandah to sit out and watch the world.  The food here is excellent and good value and we opted to eat here throughout our stay. Velvet Sunset is located at the north end of Agonda beach so it is very quiet and peaceful (although when the dogs get started at night it can be annoying!). The beach is very clean (unlike many beaches in Goa) and people come along regularly to pick up the rubbish and flotsam and jetsome. Staff are nice and attentive but not over-bearing. Juices were lovely, especially watermelon and mint. The other rooms are extremely basic and would, in my opinion, leave a lot to be desired. Wifi can be intermittent and they do change the password without telling you! Power also can go off, but doesn't seem to stop them cooking. There are basic beach beds but only a couple of rather old umbrellas, but you can always get shade if necessary. Wonderful sunsets as the name implies!

Pros: Location, views and peaceful environs, excellent food at the hotel cafe
Cons: Poor wi-fi, frequent power cuts, poor lighting inside the room (not suitable for reading!) and a fair amount of condescension towards Indian travellers, 

Got a great deal on Booking dot com, and it turned out to be for a budget room. I'm sort of hoping the facilities were slightly better at the premium or deluxe rooms. We weren't complaining, though: we were staying on the beach, and it's quite an experience falling asleep to the sound of waves. 

I'd still recommend it to couples, solo travellers and small families. Even the foreign tourist crowd here is not the hippie kinds, they're some families and backpackers. Indian travellers may find the food (especially the breakfast items) slightly expensive. I guess the premium you're paying is for the location and the views.

Pleasant getaway on the pristine Agonda beach in South Goa

When my friends and I booked this resort, I think we saw pictures of all the rooms except the cheaper beach huts. So we booked, thinking we would get rooms like the pictures we saw on the booking sites. Wow, our rooms were NOTHING like those pictures. 

Now as I understand things, what we did get were standard beach huts: you sacrifice luxury for price. The room I had was basically a hammered together plywood box with a window, narrow porch, a fan (thank goodness), a big bed with mosquito nets, and a large creaky washroom cum shower. There was one large round rolling table that would have been better as a set of vertical shelves so that you could more easily unpack. The porch had 2 plastic chairs and a rope for hanging clothes.
The room walls and floors were dark in color so you really couldn't tell if your room was clean or not. There were no amenities, not even a free bottle of water to start you off. There were two towels and a blanket for the bed (mine was sandy). The bed was pretty hard. 

The room sweltered by day but was wonderfully cool by night with the window open and getting sea breezes and the fan on overhead. By the 3rd day of my stay, I had gotten over my fears that the washroom would break off of the room when I was in it. And I got accustomed to the cramped quarters and ignored the chances that there was likely sand all over the bed.

Like I said - seems it was a standard beach hut.

But the service of the resort was not always consistent. Ok, the hut was cheap, but the staff and bar should give courteous and helpful service no matter which hut you're in, shouldn't they? In total, there were only 2-3 of the staff present who were attentive. The staff never asked if we needed our rooms cleaned, or if we needed fresh towels or more toilet paper. While usually fast to give menus and take orders, the kitchen was often pretty slow, and sometimes ants were served in the food.The beach front that the resort had included several lounge chairs for sunbathing, but had only 3 beach umbrellas, one of which was severely broken. The other guests fed the stray dogs and some of the staff tolerated the pack that roamed the resort, but we saw one cleaning staff throw rocks at the dogs which is not acceptable....why doesn't the resort act responsibly by making sure all the dogs are sterilized with the help of local animal NGOs and educate guests and staff alike on proper behavior with dogs? 

But the food was pretty tasty - while it all took time to make, you knew it was fresh. I do not think the staff really had any idea what we meant when we said we wanted vegan food, but I do not think we were served food that was not vegan. We always asked for not straws, but usually received straws anyway - I strongly urge all resorts to go strawless or offer biodegradable straws.The 2-3 staff members who were usually attentive were also friendly which was pleasant when there were other less pleasant things to deal with.

Cedric the manager was helpful though, as all the reviews we saw stated. And he lined up an auto for me once when it was needed and listened well when I asked for a safe punctual driver to take us to the airport when we checked out.

The best things about this resort when staying in a beach hut were:
- Great beach, clean and close to the resort.
- Cheap food, the veg pakora were delicious, the falafal plate, fries, veg sandwich, and the hashbrown also all tasty. They also serve a generous and well varied fruit salad.
- Lots of vegan options available in the restaurants along Agonda Beach Road (Zest was the best - DO NOT MISS THIS PLACE!)

The cons:
- Sites should also feature pics of the basic huts so people know what they are getting.
- Not anywhere near enough beach umbrellas available.
- Staff was not always attentive to guests' needs unless the guest was in one of the expensive rooms, or if the guest was young, female and pretty (:-P).

Suggestions:
- Post pics of the beach huts so people know what they are getting when they book those rooms.
- Offer a basic soap bar at least.
- Get more umbrellas with proper stands.
- Make the insides of the beach huts a lighter color so guests do not feel like they are in a dungeon!
- Help the staff be more attentive to all the guests regardless of which room they are in or what they look like.
- Educate the staff and guests on how to treat dogs and work with local NGOs to get the dogs sterilized.

Good beach and locale, not so great huts

The bungalow was very basic, comfortable bed with mosquito net, no AC but fan. Bathroom basic and only cold water shower. You can walk onto beach without shoes as well as the restaurant. Food was OK but stick to local food, however pizza was good. We got tuctuc to far end of bay where water is calmer for swimming.
There are lots of good places to eat and sun beds are free

Cheap and cheerful

Very basic huts fine for some people but not for all.  Little info on check in, staff friendly enough, they're very laid back and overcharged us on checkout. 
Bathroom not very nice and had no hot water also the electricity kept cutting out.  The beach and surrounding area are amazing though.
Booked online so knew we would be paying over the odds a bit but we got a much nicer hut down the road for a similar price.

Not great

We had the beach Front bungalows with AC and Open bathroom. Good condition and awesome view on the sea. Location is really cosy and quiet as it is located at the North end of Agonda beach. Problem is the poor almost unprofessional staff work: Street dogs in the restaurant, long waiting time for food/beverages, meals and drinks not served as ordered, dirty tables, sloppy cleaning of house-keeping, no sunshades at the beach, dog poo next to beach huts, etc.
