Stayed for 3 nights with at Marari and had a lovely relaxed time.
Nivea and her family couldn’t have been more helpful or welcoming.
Accommodation is basic but clean, one of the 2rooms has air conditioning, lovely porch for sitting outside, family provide good fresh food, basically for that price ,what more can you ask for!
Must repeat that this really is an authentic and friendly place in a beautiful relaxed environment.

We've just come back from 10 very relaxing days in Kerala, staying at this homestay.
We were looked after by Philip and his lovely wife ,who cooked breakfast and dinner every day for us....amazing food,absolutely the best...all the Keralan favourites and more,the appams/idly and sambar for breakfast was memorable,all just great.
Their beautiful daughter Nivea was very fluent in English and helped us immensely in between studying to get into medical school..thank you Nivea!
The room was three star by western standards but very comfortable and clean and a good bathroom.The free wi-fi was quick and reliable  and watching films on our tablet on Netflix was like being at home...complete connectivity to everything..even if you need to work!!
It was the personal service that made this 5 star,beyond corporate hotel training,anything was arranged immediately even at the last minute.
This included being picked up at the airport by a neighbour at 4am(thank you Jaxon)  a last minute decision to visit Periyar/Thekaddy was arranged..excellent! and a visit to the hospital on the last day for my husband who developed a bad chest infection...Philip went with him and got the best treatment sorted and all ok in 48 hours.We felt very secure that anything was possible.
Kattoor beach is completely undeveloped.(500m from the homestay)..you will probably be the only tourists on it and it is beautiful.The fishermen have finished by about 10am and playing cards,leaving it for everyone else.The sea was very powerful when we went ...strong undercurrents about every 5th wave,'bobbing' around wasn't an option but ok for strong swimmers and paddlers.
No beach shacks at the Kattoor end of the beach, but the homestay nearest the entrance has a little shop with drinks and snacks,or the homestay with do packing up for lunch...omelette and chappatis or suchlike.
For meals and sunloungers we went to marari beach (150 rupees in a tuk tuk from the homestay) lots of options here with good services.not as developed as Goa but that's why we went! beautiful beach palms and casuarina trees and lovely vast stretches of white sand (the plastic bottle problem needs sorting out).try palm heaven/seafood Rose/coffe temple etc very good,
It is a 'dry'country,but I can't see this policy lasting very long..it is bad for tourism.Having said that ,there is usually beer available if asked for and toddy shops are everywhere..a couple of the shacks offered wine with dinner ,We had bought a bottle of gin and whisky at Bahrain duty free for the evenings and it was a good idea..worked out cheap,we are no way alcoholics but it is your holiday and booze is part of it!
Do try the Ayurvedic massage,I felt 20 years younger..no lie! Also i had a scale and polish at the dentist (Smile in Kattor) very professional,western standards ,arranged half an hour before treatment for the equivalent of £20 lovely job.
The country has recovered well from the floods a few signs of road repair in the hill country but everywhere else was ok.Kochin airport is brand spanking new and is 100% solar powered, a sign of the future.
We would definitely return to Marari Greenland Homestay,Philip is a true gentleman and his family are beautiful people...some lifelong memories have been made here,thank you,naani x

excellent homely base for exploring Kerala or just the beach.

Me and my family stayed a week in this homestay,it was a great experience. The rooms and bathrooms are neat and clean. My daughter Farah and Catherine became very good friends...She still talks a lot about her and misses her a lot...The home made food was delicious and of different variety. We miss this place a lot and thinking of going back to this place soon again...The beach is just walking distance from this homestay..This place highly recommended.

Very beautiful place with sweet hosts.

I was staying here for 3 nights - but I could have stayed for weeks! The rooms are very clean and comfortable and the property is surrounded by peaceful nature only 5 min walking distance from the beach. The host family is very kind and caring, the food is fantastic! Hammocks in the garden, quiet lonely beach..perfect for relaxed holidays!!

Great place!

The room is very clean and beautiful. very clean bathrooms. peaceful and beautiful garden with a lot of flowers and trees. clean and perfect beach which was a paradise for me and my partner. food was very good and one of the  best we  tasted in india. no pollution and no sound. very friendly and helping family. we will highly recommend and surely we will return  if we visit india next time
