A fabulous villa in the white mountains. Peaceful and so very relaxing. 

Our host, Nikos, was marvellous! He  made a great stay amazing couldn’t do enough for us. When we arrived he greeted us personally and had provided a beautiful fruit basket, homemade cake, Raki, wine and a selection of refrigerated and store cupboard basics! We did not have car and arrived when the taverna in the village was set to close. He rung the owner and arranged for him to stay open for us and then drove us there and back. He also asked the owner if he could deliver food to us on another day if we were stuck (which the owner kindly did) Nikos offered to drive us to various places and when he couldn’t, arranged for a family friend to do so. Nikos even went and got us some shopping from the supermarket. Hero. He gave us tips and recommendations based on what we like and was spot on every time. He was there when we needed him and bought us some delicious bakes on our penultimate day. What a guy! Such a great host. I stupidly left my kindle behind and he was set to drive it to the airport for me ! What a nice man!

The villa itself is beautiful and has been lovingly restored by Nikos. The village is so friendly and the people really welcoming. Accommodation is split over 2 buildings, so great when with friends. Aircon works well and there’s plenty of storage space for clothes etc. I can’t praise it enough !

Amazing host and amazing villa!

We had an absolutely perfect 8 days at Verekinthos Villas. It consists of three beautifully restored farmhouse buildings set in the foothills of the stunning White Mountains but it’s the owner, Nikos, who sets this experience apart. He is an exemplary host: kind, funny and generous with both gifts and his advice for things to do and places to eat. The welcome pack we arrived to (stocked with fresh fruit, wine, soft drinks, cupboard essentials and more) and food that Nikos brought over during our stay (orange cake, spinach pies and stuffed vegetables, vine leaves and zucchini flowers cooked by his mother as well as hand-picked tomatoes and freshly baked cheese pies) were all delicious. 

The villa itself is stylish, comfortable and very well-appointed: a cute kitchen with everything we needed, four beautiful bedrooms, three bathrooms as well as: air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a big TV with Netflix, a balcony, and a couple of very comfortable living-room areas. We’ve never stayed in a villa where our every need was anticipated like this: everything we could think of the villa had it to hand! 

Outside there’s a fantastic BBQ, a hugely inviting pool complete with a snuggly day-bed and loungers. The terrace and dining areas offer dramatic views of the mountains (and the local goats!) There’s also lots of comfy places to relax across the villa with an outdoor sofa and comfortable beach cushions. Wonderfully private and nestled deep in nature we loved seeing bats, lizards and a Cretan Stone Marten; and so many stars and planets at night, and goats, bees, butterflies and swallows during the day. Despite being off the beaten track it was only a short drive to several excellent tavernas (Dounias slow food was exceptional) and a fun 20 minute drive through the countryside to get to Chania. We loved using the villa’s bikes to cycle to Mavres vineyard where we had a delicious lunch and wine tasting too. 

Watching the sun rise or set from the villa’s terrace was magical every time and Nikos helped make our stay perfect. We’re going to miss it all so much and hope to come back one day soon. Couldn’t recommend Verekinthos Villas enough - if you’re thinking of staying here you won’t regret it!

Perfect villa, perfect host, perfect holiday!

If you are looking for a beautiful villa holiday without being surrounded by other people, this is a perfect spot.
It’s up in the White Mountains so it does take 20 winding minutes to get down each time but the drive is worth it. 
Gorgeous views of the hills, a fantastic, clean pool and a quirky, authentic but still luxurious villa where the only sounds are the goats and insects.
One real point of difference is the hospitality provided by the owner Nikos. He genuinely wants you to have the perfect stay - starting with a very generous welcome pack (including his own wine which was delicious), topped up with various local dishes and cakes prepared by his mother. We particularly enjoyed the gemista (stuffed vegetables) although my son is still dreaming of the orange cake.
Nikos also takes time to go through suggested destinations / trips worth doing, which are really worth getting a local viewpoint. However, he is discrete as well as accommodating so you will not be pestered unnecessarily.
We spent most days in the villa enjoying the terraces and pool, but spent several evenings in Xania old town which is stunning, a trip to the water park and there are some good local tavernas in Drakona and Theriso a short drive further up the mountains.
It’s a long drive to a supermarket, but with the food provided we did not need it much!
Good aircon too which is much appreciated in August! 3 bathrooms too, (although could do with a bigger shower) and the attention to detail of the furnishings and finishing are remarkable.
If you want peace away from the tourist traps, this place is great. Thanks Nikos - and sorry we smashed wine glass!

Perfect relaxation in isolation

We sent to visit Nikos’ beautiful villa up in the hills and we all agree - things could not be better. The villa is perfectly located 25 min drive from Chania Centrum and is ideal if you are looking for a quiet place to spend your holiday.

We spent most of our time by the pool and the facilities was great. A big pool with enough depht is quite rare. The outdoor place is such well done and we enjoyed every minute of our stay.

On top of this, you get the best host in Nikos and he will take good care of you while you are staying in his villa. He will even bring you food and plan a trip to the beach for you if you would like. 

He also drove our party to the airport the last day, which was a very good kind way to end our stay. Such a polite man, you will absolutely not regret booking his place.

Quiet mountain villa with amazing facilities

Spent a week at the beautiful Villa Verekinthos with some friends. The location of the villa is perfect for relaxing or if you want some peace around you since its located some what in the mountains. 

If you rent a car it's anyway not a long drive before you are in the center of Chania. 

The host Nikos is the perfect example of a good and caring host. Whenever we needed some help or information he was available and gave us tips for activities that we could do in the area. Which gave us more opportunities then we could find ourselves. 

I can really recommend this villa if you are looking for a relaxing or social experience with friends or family!

Perfect area for relaxation and experience Crete 

We spent 2 weeks at Verekinthos in August 2018 – we are a family of four with children aged 14 and 17. It was our second family visit to Crete, having had a hugely enjoyable stay in a different villa in the same region 3 years earlier. There are many positives about the villa. It is very spacious (it is actually two separate buildings, each with its own lounge, cooking facilities and bathrooms – although linked, in practice the two buildings have different entrances), and has been converted to a high standard. The interiors are well presented and maintained with lots of facilities, and good air-conditioning in the bedrooms; there is no need for any a/c in the kitchen/lounges as original concrete walls mean it is cool even in high summer. The outside space is very pleasant and scenic, with different areas to sit on different levels, though it looks a little bigger in the pictures than in actuality. The pool area is nice, though the pool is pretty small – more for dipping than for swimming. Nikos is a warm, kindly and welcoming host, and his mother’s cooking is fantastic – we would encourage sampling of whatever food is offered! 

The main challenge of the villa is the location. If you want tranquillity, then you certainly have it (although the villa is on a minor road, meaning occasional passing cars) and the mountain views are nice. The flip-side of tranquillity is, however, that the location is quite isolated. There is a small store nearby, but the couple of local mountain restaurants were not very good. This means, after a day of pleasant relaxation, you need to drive 25-30 minutes to get to a decent restaurant for dinner (in the direction of Chania), mainly through windy, hilly mountain roads – then the same again in the dark coming back. We got a bit fed up of this after a while, and ended up going to Paleohora in the south for a few days (which is fantastic!), where we stayed in a hotel and walked out to dinner. Nevertheless, we felt a warmth when we returned to the lovely villa, reminding us that the location was really the only real downside of a very good holiday.

Lots of good things, though a little isolated

I visited Chania this September with my wife, our 6 month old daughter and the in-laws. We chose Verekinthos as the place looked stunning, is in a beautiful location and it seemed to tick all the boxes for us. The place lived up to expectation and the owner Nikos has put a lot of effort into renovating this old family property to create a stunning guest villa. The views are amazing - looking out at the white mountains which dwarf any mountains here in the UK. Although situated on a small road, this is very quiet and only a few cars pass each day. The place is silent (apart from the goats, dogs, locusts etc). At night the secluded location provides an excellent view of the night sky.

The host Nikos was extremely friendly and brought us lovely food on several occasions. He even took time off work to come and cook a traditional Cretan bbq for us on our final night. Not something we would expect but Nikos really does go the extra mile to make you feel welcome in his home. He also brought us wine and traditional raki. 

If you plan on spending a lot of time in the main town of Chania then it is worth noting that it is a good 30 - 40 minute drive from this villa. The villa does provide a great base for exploring the surrounding area as there are plenty of other places to see. 

Nikos also recommended some local tavernas where we ate and we were not disappointed. 

The only slight negative about the place which I hope could be improved, is that the kitchen is very small and has very little equipment. Given that the villa can accommodate upwards of 8 people I think the kitchen should be much bigger and the facilities better. This does not alter my rating as I can see Nikos is constantly improving the place and I'm sure this is something that has been fed back before.

Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a beautiful character building, with a great host, in a stunning location.

Beautiful character villa

My friends and I had the pleasure of staying here recently and we couldn't have been happier! The villa is absolutely gorgeous and everything we expected it to be and more! Nikos took great care of us and was available to get us to the villa late at night after our ferry from Santorini was very late. He barbecued for us one night and his mom was so kind to send us a delicious cake and spinach pies that were to die for. The location is a little far from Chania town, but the gorgeous drive makes up for it in that you want to drive it because it is that beautiful! The villa is clean and well equipped and Nikos is available and helpful at all times of the day. When I come back to Chania I will not stay anywhere else! Thanks again for everything Nikos!!

Fantastic Villa!!

Wonderful holiday villa with pool close to Chania (25 minutes). Nikos has turned his grandfathers farmhouse into a lovely and well renovated ensemble of three small villas. We've spend a lot of time on the great terrace. Nikos, thank you so much for your hospitality, the barbecue and your mums stuffed tomatoes! I loved your wine as well! Our group of seven really enjoyed staying at your house! My husband, my son (9y) and me stayed in the former stable with one twin bed down stairs and another kingsize bed upstairs on the gallery. There are another two large bedrooms. So there has been plenty of room for all of us. This is a real secret place!

Traumurlaub

Our family stayed at Verekinthos villa from July 13 to 23, and we simply could not have asked for a better place! The villa is beautiful, renovated with love and attention to details. Swimming pool was a big hit with our kids (and not only them...), the view of the hills around the villas is fabulous and the silence was such a luxury. But the best part was the owner himself. Nikos was welcoming and an incredibly pleasant person to interact with. He helped us with tips about daily trips, local restaurant etc. And he spoiled us by bringing often delicious greek food cooked by his mother. Thank Nikos, we had a memorable vacation! And we will be back!
