Gästehaus Wahnenmühle

While making our travel plans for a German Christmas Market trip with my father, we came across the Gastehaus Wahnenmuhle and couldn't have been happier with our choice. We wanted to be in the vicinity of Dusseldorf, using that as a central location to make day trips to some of the smaller Christmas Markets around the area. The accommodations are very charming and comfortable and we loved the location as it was so peaceful and quiet. The home itself has been carefully restored and was so comfortable. I must commend the work that was done during the restoration, as it retained the old feel of the house, but with all the modern amenities one might expect. My father stayed in the Bretagne room which was located on the first floor, while we stayed in the Normandie room. Both rooms were of a very comfortable size and the beds were first rate. After traveling for close to a week, it was nice to feel like you were in a home as opposed to a hotel. While we couldn't have asked for anything more in the accommodations, it was our hosts, the Magistrali family who truly made this location so special. From the first correspondance via e-mail and throughout our stay, Melanie, Tommaso and Chloe made us feel so welcome. They are very gracious and make you feel as if you are part of the family. The breakfasts were a highlight of our day, seeing Chloe's smiling face and enjoying the breakfast room. Unfortunately, we didn't have much sun during our stay, but the breakfast room was very comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed the fresh fruits, breads, eggs, cheese and meat trays. Melanie and Tommaso were very attentive to our needs at breakfast, while respecting our privacy. After leaving, my father commented many times on what a wonderful time he had at the Gastehaus Wahnenmuhle, but most significantly, how impressed he was with Melanie and Tommaso. This made the fourth European trip that I have taken with my father. Each time, we have experienced something new and exciting, but for him, it is the people that we have met that have left a lasting impression. In this case, the Magistrali family has left my father with fond memories of his travels throughout Germany. We feel as if we made new friends during our visit and when we return to Germany, we will certainly make the Gastehaus Wahnenmuhle our first choice.
