9 reviewsThe hotel is located 10 minutes (walk!) from the main train station in Augsburg, in old town, on the edge of the main pedestrian zone. Unfortunately, this makes the rooms quite noisy through most of the night (due to people happily wandering around on pleasant nights), especially with the windows open (no A/C, but this is fine). This is the main thing I did not like about this hotel, but no doubt many would love the location (and the nightlife) and would not mind the noise. The building itself is fairly old (like most buildings in town), but my room (including the bathroom) was very clean and modern. It was very large even by American standards (rooms in Europe tend to be small). As in all other hotels in Europe I stayed at, the double bed had two single mattresses and two single blankets enclosed in a blanket case (no separate blankets or sheets); there was a shower, but no bathtub. The mattresses and the pillows were a bit thin/soft for my taste. There was no alarm clock, but there was a fridge. Unlike most other hotels in Europe I stayed at, there were washcloths (in addition to larger towels) and two good bars of soap (as opposed to soap dispensers and/or tiny bars of soap). There was also a small elevator. The "continental breakfast" was fantastic, comparable only to the best "full American breakfast" I have had in a hotel (Hampton Inn downtown Nashville). In addition to 3 kinds of cereal, 2 kinds of fresh juices, multiple flavors of yogurt, and several kinds of breads, cookies, and jams, it included several kinds of sliced meats, two kinds of sliced cheeses, packaged meat pates and cheese, and various fresh fruits (and likely other things I am forgetting). The breakfast area was also very nice. The lady running the hotel is extremely nice and seems to work 12-14 hour days. I told her at check-in that I would need to be leaving before 7am (3 days later). She remembered this and started the breakfast at least half an hour earlier than scheduled (it is supposed to start at 7), even without my saying a word about this ahead of time. As this is a fairly small hotel (perhaps 40-50 rooms), the reception is not open all of the time, so drop her an e-mail if you are expecting to arrive after 7pm.
