I've stayed here twice in the last couple of years. Both times I was the only person staying ... which is very sad! Jonny the dog is definitely slightly crazy but I love him anyway.
It IS a little piece of paradise, which is why I came back after my first visit.
It is owned and run by Mati, a senegalese lady who married a gambian. He passed away and the project has never been finished.
There's an empty swimming pool surrounded by lovely gardens and the place has such potential which has not yet been realised.
I have given 5 stars for the environment, the potential and the scenery, rather than for the rooms ... which are shabby and in need of restoration ... and lots of maintenance work.
Good luck to all of you at Kobokoto. My heart is with you and I wish you all the best.
I WILL stay there again one day soon I hope.

A Beautiful Place!

The manager was very accommodating. The place itself is comfortable and suited my needs. No pool or hot water but spacious. My breakfast was brought to me at a nearby compound, as I was leaving very early every morning. The beach you can walk to , just about 15-20 minutes. Getting taxi is not a problem. You can arrange for meals , local food very delicious. 
If you’re looking for 5* this is not it . But if you want to experience true Gambian hospitality , I would highly recommend.

Suited my needs

Just back from running another musical workshop in Kobokotu Lodge, Sanyang, Gambia. This is a lovely space for anyone considering workshops as well as for individuals or couples. There is  a well kept 'garden' so plenty of shade. The outside area is really beautiful and they have pots of water dotted around to attract birds so you can sit outside your room and be enchanted by the wildlife.The staff are friendly and accommodating and the rooms clean with toilets that work and mains electricity (they have back-up solar too for power cuts).
 It's quite basic although all rooms have a mozzy net and you can generally get a fan if you need one in the hotter months. There's a covered 'bantaba' area which is perfect for workshops and meals can be taken outside under the shade of the trees or in the spacious restaurant/bar area with its pretty terrace. Water is generally reliable and all rooms have en suite. Any problems with water, lightbulbs etc are generally fixed fairly quickly (in a country where my experience has been that they are not & you can spend a whole week trying to get a lightbulb that works this is a high reccomendation!)
It's a great place for the more independent traveler but also very secure so would be a good start for those who've done hotel packages before but want something a little further away from the busyness of the tourist areas. 20 mins from the beach or a quick taxi ride you can either go to one of the beach bars to hang out or experience a quieter time in some of the unoccupied stretches of one of my favorite beaches in Gambia. 
Sanyang is quiet but has its own charm, there are a couple of restaurants in the village, anyone who likes birdwatching will be in heaven and there is a local music festival in January each year. Anyone needing considering Kobokotu or activities in the Sanyang area can get hold of me as I've run workshops in the village for 4 years now and have numerous reliable contacts there.
Prices are D650 a night (included breakfast) or D1000 for couples.

Kobokotu Lodge: a little piece of paradise.

While this lodge may be okay for some, it wasn't clean enough and well kept for me. I also found the owner or manager to be very brusk. These are not the same people who owned this a few years ago. Buyer beware.
