We drove the Route des Grandes Alpes and mad a stop over in Barcelonnette, a town which we enjoyed a lot. However the hotel Auberge de Pra-Loup was the worst hotel experience I  had  in  the last 20 years. A shower built into the room and the toilet on the  aisle. Unfortunately we didn't have a choice since all other hotels were fully booked. The quality of the hotel would have  been acceptable of the price wouldn't have been €100 with a lousy breakfast. Try to avoid if you can

While we didn't stay here, we had a great dinner in this small hotel's restaurant.  The interior is very traditional, and so was the food.  It was Christmas Eve, and the owner and cook had a wonderful meal prepared.  Chicken in a mushroom sauce was the main course, which was simple but delicious!  After the meal, the owner offered us some homemade digestif, which was very good, and some homemade blue-type cheese, which was overwhelmingly bad (but gave us a good laugh)! A very memorable Christmas Eve dinner.

Dinner was fun

It should really be 3 1/2 stars but I'll leave the 4. The Auberge is well located and somme of the rooms (not mine unfortunately) have a really nice view of the montain range around. The room was adequate with a modern bathroom . Unfortunately though there is free WiFi , it was not available in the room. Parking should not be a problem. The owner was quite helpful.

we arrived in the evening after a very tiring day. The owner greeted us warmly and proved very helpful right from the start. we could deposit the bike. unfortunately we did not eat dinner, but I served in the morning a breakfast abbindante. it is made available even to accompany us and show us the way to go alternative for our tour.

Mtb trip

This was one of the worst places we have ever stayed in. The rooms were very outdated and dark. The bathroom was ok, but the toilet seat wasn't fixed. The cook is also the reception and was not very nice and welcoming. We were more a burden, so it seemed, than guests. This does NOT deserve 3 stars at all! The food was OK, but not refined. The cheese we got as a dessert was all pre-packaged in small pieces and some were even outdatet. After attending the cook at this he quickly switched the cheese and told us we were wrong. Then he fetched a large bowl were he kept all outdated cheese in and he wanted us to taste it?!? Horrible. The only positive thing is that it was very quiet and some beds were OK, so watch the matrasses if they are not too old. The breakfast was lousy, instead of a petit-déjeneur it was more like a micro-déjeuner. We even didn't get a decent plate and only 4 pieces of bread and again everything was pre-packaged. The only good thing was the coffee. We will never again go to this hotel!
