Franck and Martine are outstanding hosts and wonderful people.  The home has been owned by Franck's family for many years and is beautiful.  Just look at the photos that have been posted by some of the other reviewers.  The garden is amazing, and quite a surprise.  Franck won a local award several years ago for his garden, and you can see why once you leave the parking area and walk to the Maison.  Our room was quite nice with a large bathroom and shower.  Franck and Martine were there to welcome all of the guests, providing any advice, and taking time to get to know their guests.  Breakfast was excellent and with a wide selection of choices. This kind of experience is why we prefer a bed and breakfast facility to a chain hotel.  About a 25 minute walk to the cathedral, or you can take the metro that runs in front of the Maison.  You will enjoy your time there!

Excellent hosts, property, and overall experience

This boutique hotel is a delight.  We booked a one night stay and were so pleased we stayed a second night.  It is one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in.  The rooms are light, airy and comfortable.  The bed was nice and the linen is very good quality.  We had a large bright bathroom with a great walk in shower and his and hers sinks.  The garden at the rear was a delight.

 The proprietor was welcoming and very helpful.

Our continental breakfast was second to none with so much choice.

We would definitely rebook if coming to this area again.

Memorable Stay

We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Chambres d'Hotes La Maison  over the 4 days we were in Rouen. It is a 19th C home about 20 minutes outside the city center that somehow escaped the bombs of WWII that seem to have devastated the area nearby, with the result that it is an oasis in a sea of otherwise unattractive post-war development. But what an oasis! When you step into the walled garden, you might as well be in the countryside. The house itself is lovely, the rooms super comfortable and charming. They served the best croissants of our trip for breakfast (plus other yummy things). To top this off, Franck and Martine, the proprietors, are the warmest, sweetest, most considerate people you can imagine. Unfortunately,  the Lubrizol chemical factory fire broke out our second day there, which was really disconcerting. Franck urged us to go elsewhere, in case the chemicals were toxic. However, the fire was under control by mid-day, and the air around La Maison was pretty much unaffected, unlike the city center. So we stuck around, and simply toured surrounding Giverney and Castle Gaillard. But we did appreciate Franck and Martine's solicitousness. 

To top it off, our next venue was Trouville, where we happened to bump into Franck and Martine at the tasting stall in the fish market. Franck saw us, hailed us, and heartily greeted us like old friends. It was very touching, and just another indicator of what nice people they are.

A word about the location and finding the place: When the taxi pulled up to the gate, I felt sure there must be some mistake, because of the charmless developments around, and the locked gate. However, the taxi driver knew this to be a gites, and subsequently we saw the small Gites de France sign, but you had to look for it. A German couple who arrived at the same time were clearly having the same difficulty about what to do next. So we used the intercom, and Franck quickly responded to let us in. He made all the rest quite simple. 

Initially, we were concerned about being at a distance from the city center, since it's a charmless 20 minute walk to get there. However,  it turned out that there is a metro stop 2 minutes from La Maison, from which within 5 minutes one can be in the city center. 

We loved our stay here, Rouen is fascinating, and I highly recommend La Maison for exploring the city.

Warm, welcoming, wonderful place to stay in a terrifically fascinating city

The property is set on a busy boulevard, and we thought it may be noisy, but nothing is further from the truth!  Behind the iron gate is ample room for parking off street, and a most beautiful garden and outside seating area, leading to a wonderful large French house!  The owner, Frank, is very welcoming (and even has a trolley to transport the luggage from the car to the house) and is a fantastic host!  We were welcomed with cool drinks, and shown to our room which was very tastefully decorated and superbly equipped.  The en-suite shower room was spacious and the shower powerful (not often found in hotels). 
Breakfast the next morning was presented well, with every attention to detail in the content.  I can find no fault in this accommodation, and would love to visit again in the future! 

A wonderful hidden oasis of calm!

We only stayed one night and we wish we had more time. If you drive a car, the location is great as you park the car and use the nearby public transportation to get to the old city.
Frank, the owner, will open the gates and wait for you on the main road to make sure you don't miss the entrance, we did and than called for guidance.   
Frank was charming and made us feel most welcome, he helped with the suitcases, and city plans while offering cold / hot drink served with homemade cookies.
The garden is magnificent as well as the house itself. We took a top floor room and it was large with a sitting sofa and chairs, comfortable large bed and a fantastic bathroom. 
Breakfast served fresh and excellent with a variety of everything you can ask for.
If ever again in Rouen, this would be the first place we visit.

Fantastic

From the photos, we expected an ivy-covered house on the outskirts of Rouen and were delighted to find it hidden away behind a wall in the middle of the city! Once we pulled up in front of the gate and our host Frank admitted us into the secret garden world, things could not have been better! Where to start? First of all, Franck quided our parking and we were set for the stay. There is a wonderful metrobus line that runs just outside the gate, so no worries about driving and parking once we settled. Franck whisked our suitcases into a little garden trolly and pulled them to the house, where he promptly insisted on taking them to our beautiful quarters on the third floor. Quarters, not room- there was a little sitting area or ant room and then a huge bedroom. We had a large casement window looking out on the magical gardens which were all in spring finery. Breath-taking! I quite felt that Juliette herself could have been looking out that window for her Romeo- it was that gorgeous!  

The bathroom was another wonder- huge with window that opened, a skylight, a lovely heating rack and a very large shower. The linens were beautiful white cotton over a soft duvet with very comfortable pillows and mattress. We slept like babies after venturing to the old town to look around and have dinner. 

The next morning Franck and Martine offered a great breakfast with many breads, jams, juice, fruit, yogurt, delicious coffee, and even cooked eggs for my husband.  All with the kindest and most jovial demeanour.  We were very sad to leave this lovely Shangri-La and would return to Rouen on the next French Trip just to stay here again!

Surprising and Most Wonderful

We spent two nights at the lovely Chambres d'Hôtes in Rouen.  The house is set in a beautiful walled-in garden that you would never expect to find on a busy boulevard.  It is an old dwelling which has been lovingly and tastefully decorated.  We received a warm welcome from charming Franck and his wife Martine.  The room was lovely, the bathroom spacious and immaculate.  A wonderful continental breakfast was served in the dining room after which you stroll through the exquisite garden before exploring Rouen.  The town center is a mere five minutes by trolley or twenty minutes walking.  I highly recommend this outstanding facility!

A peaceful oasis in Rouen

Alas we only stayed one night but we could've stayed forever. We arrived earlier than planned/check in but the owners made us SOOOO welcome. They gave us the choice of where to sit while we waited for our room to be ready. We chose a divine little spot in the back and next minute the chap returned with tea and cake. Good wi-fi, even in this little hidden corner meant we could get some work done. We are very interested in gardens and this garden is a pure sanctuary, designed by Alexander Thomas. The house itself is a marvel and beautifully done inside and out which we understand the daughter helped redesign the interior for them. Its astounding how quiet the place is with such a busy road running right next to it but those gates close and you are transported to peace and tranquility. The breakfast was plentiful and so fresh and tasty. The owners are simply loveliness personified. We just wish we could speak French so we could be sure they understood just how lovely we thought they and their divine home are. There is no doubt we would stay here again if our travels bring us through Rouen in the future. I'm sure all the rooms are lovely but definitely ask for the loft room. Its enormous! The bathroom is also huge AND there is even a dressing room combo office space with desk. The double window looking to the front garden gives it such a romantic feel. It is worth being aware that there is very little hanging space in the very large dressing room. We only had one night so it made absolutely no difference to us but could to someone staying longer. To stay anywhere else would be simply foolish!

OUTSTANDINGLY OUTSTANDING!!

After travelling in France for over two weeks and fed up of staying in soulless corporate hotels we decided to look at chambers d hotes. It is a first for us and hope it’s not the last. After reading the reviews on this place, I couldn’t wait to book it. We were not disappointed. This place is fantastic, made even better by the host Franck. We are already planning a return trip to Rouen just to stay here. Can’t speak highly enough of La Manson.

Would give 6 stars if I could

This is a brilliant place to stay. This is not just a house with rooms, it is a manor house set in lovely garden, a haven of peace and quiet. The room was large, modern, very well decorated and comfortable with a very good ensuite. The continental breakfast is excellent and can be taken indoors or in the garden. Above everything else what makes it such a good place to stay are the owners. They are lovely. Franck even drove us to the restaurant on our first night as we did not know our way around. Great location, twenty minutes walk from the Cathedral or easy access by public transport. It also has good secure on site parking.
We really enjoyed our stay and would certainly go back.
