Le Paille en Queue

We wanted to spend one night in Saint Louis and we opted for Villa Paille en Queue. Price was great for the 5 of us. Before arriving there, we were a bit septic following some average reviews. However, for the price we were paying, we could not complain. Hosts were helpful and welcoming. Nice swimming Pool. Only downside that we did encounter was the use of the communal shower and toilet for the 5 of us. Not a big issue though if you are with friends or family. Breakfast was ok.

Ideal for Budget travelers with Car!

Stayed for 4 nights over Easter with our family in Mauritius, they booked everything. Based on some of the negative reviews we probably wouldn't have stayed here ourselves but decision made for us.  I think I can best sum it up by saying don't expect 4/5 star quality for 2/3 star prices.  We paid 280 euros for 4 nights for our room.  Our bedroom and ensuite were clean, serviceable and bed was comfortable, no aircon, just a ceiling fan.  Breakfast was basic 'French' continental consisting of one croissant and one bread roll with conserve each plus muesli, tea or coffee and some fruit.  Forget your 'continental' spreads of more expensive hotels.  Swimming pool was great for the grandchildren. The hosts were very friendly, welcoming and suggested places to dine.  They have a kitchen area with fridges to chill anything you buy and you can get takeaway pizza from a place nearby to eat in if you wish which we did one evening.  One pleasant gesture from our host was replacing a bottle of wine which fell out of the fridge when opened by another guest and broke.  I wouldn't recommend against staying, just pitch your expectations at the level of price you are paying.

You get what you pay for

Cheap and friendly B&B was not really what we were expecting. From the photos we imagined a romantic, up-market and intimate villa perfect for a one-night getaway, but this is actually basic, no-frills accommodation ideal for those who just need a base from which to explore the island. 

+ Friendly hosts, nice pool, view.
- No air conditioning in the rooms (!), communal showers and toilet, questionable clientele, poor sound proofing (noise from corridors).

n.b. If you’re a booking.com genius, don’t forget to inform the reception that you are entitled to two extra hours otherwise housekeeping will come knocking on your door at 9 o’ clock in the morning!!

Budget accommodation probably best suited to families with young children and backpackers
