My wife and I arrived on Sunday night. We went right for dinner in the garden which is very pleasant with nice Fermob furniture. The service was excellent to start with. A great wine list with an amazing selection for a rather small venue. The sommelier helped us with a local white wine which was a nice discovery. The food was outstanding with great products and the right presentation. It was succulent at very reasonable prices. 
The room was simple and well furnished with a light touch of industrial design … but not too much. Very good bed along with a practical bathroom. It is qlso very quiet in the middle of farms and orchards.
Finally the breakfast was equally excellent. Fantastic croissants along with homemade yogourts, compte and marmelade.
Before leaving, we had a chance to discuss with the chef and owner. Great guy with lots of good ideas about sustainable agriculture and organic products. He is also a smart entrepreneur with another restaurant in town (Ripaille in front of the chateau which we tried with success for lunch) and a 2 hectare permaculture project. Best of luck to him !

Escapade à Azay ...

Pom’Poire is situated right in the middle of orchards, very tranquil and with unpolluted night skies. The set-up of the outside rooms is ideal especially in fine weather with each room having private access to an outside seating area.  The rooms have hard tiled floors and would not be cold if the CH were working.   The beds are comfortable; the outside parking is safe.  The dining room is very attractively designed with a constant apple & pear motif.  We had two breakfasts with the menu set for each day but you could chose tea or coffee.  We had an evening meal of beautifully presented bland tasting cod. The wines were not economically priced.  We stayed only two nights in order to visit Azay le Rideau and Villandry. I wanted to rate this place higher but either they were trying too hard or I am getting used to relaxed luxury in my old age, because there was no “atmosphere” although everyone was pleasant enough.

It should have been good

The Auberge is set in orchards a few miles from Azay. It is in a lovely quiet location.We had a ground floor room with a small seating area just outside our door. The room was large, light and airy and clean. The bed was very comfortable.
Breakfast was probably the best I have had in many years of holidaying in France. There was fresh bread, croissants/pain au chocolate, local fruit juice, a (still warm) pastry, yogurt, fruit compote....... magnificent. (We also had an evening meal which is under a different report)

First class B&B

Talk about quiet! Set in the orchards in the countryside just outside Azay le Rideau, this place is a must stop every year for our first night travelling through France.  We've just left it (June) and yet again it hasn't disappointed us.  The rooms on the ground floor have their own small terrace area now (new addition this year), beds are comfy, bathrooms are spotless, a delight to relax in after 6 hours driving.  The room has air con and tv and wifi is available for free.  We wouldn't stop anywhere else. And if you are stopping then take advantage of a table in the restaurant which won't disappoint ever.  The dining room is modern and the food matches it, its improved year on year.  Breakfast is a delight, fresh pastries, fresh apple juice from the orchard, all in all great value for money. Try it, you won't be disappointed

A countryside gem

Wonderful staff and great food. The food was lovely on all levels. It was inventive without being over the top with excellent ingredients used. I had sweet breads for the first time since a kid and they were fantastic. 
We came here to celebrate a 60th Birthday and I cannot fault them. Good people food and place.
