Camping les Plages de l'Ain

The site was very well sign posted, so even though the gps got us to the town getting to the camp site was easy. We were met by the manager. Though I checked comments on TripAdvisor who said that he wad not polite, I disagree he was polite and helpful, and unlike other staff he was everywhere, morning, noon and night! Under the surface there is a smile. Don't be put off by some of the comments from others. To the camp site, well we were really pleased with our plot. Plenty of shade, easy access to toilets, sanitary areas. One thing to watch out for is the pitches aren't all the same. We had plot 60 which when we put up our 6 man tent and parked the car we overlapped with plot 59. Fortunately, no problems with the neighbours. But plot 58 (had a two man tent and small car) and was as big as both 59 and 60. It didn't bother us, I suppose we could have asked to move. But just something to consider. Cars have access via a card system, and no cars can enter or leave after 10pm. But there is ample car parking space just outside the entrance. Otherwise everything was clean and well maintained. Toilets were impressively clean given the number of people. We went to the Swimming pool even at the end of the day, and usually many pools get a bit grubby, this was spotless. As for the 'plages', it is easily accessible within 30 seconds of leaving the camp ground. The beach like most on the river ain are stoney so take shoes you can swim in. The beach is long, the water is clean but there is a current so not good for young children there is a small area at the beginning of beach that is ok but gets deep quickly. In summary, it is a really good site, I'd go back!
