Flying Donkey Hostal - Hostel

This is a funky hostel, with a super fun vibe, comfortable rooms, and friendly staff. The rooftop common area has great views, and the bathrooms are exceptionally clean. The location is close to everything, and a short walk to tons of restaurants and the famous market.

Pros: cozy rooms, coffee and fruits provided in morning, dorm room available for groups, private room without bathroom for slightly more, also full rooms with private bathrooms suitable for couples or families, well-located in the city center, walkable, good restaurants/parks/cafes/market nearby, friendly staff, fully equipped kitchen

Cons: had some issue with hot water not working on occasion

We stayed one night without knowing anything about this hostel in advance—we had an issue with booking at another place and they brought us here. We got lucky! The bed was comfortable, the showers were hot with good water pressure, and though we did not use it, the kitchen and terrace were super nice. The location is good. We were on the front of the building and there is some noise, but that is to be expected on a weekend in the city. Towels and shampoo provided are a nice touch! 

There are a lot of hostels in Otavalo. The flying donkey for us is the best. It is kept superclean, run by a very helpfull and lovely family. The beds are comfy, the showers powerfull and hot. The kitchen is well  equipped and kept very clean and organized. A big table in the kitchen to eat, socialize and play games.
 They serve coffee and fresh fruit every morning (complementary). 
The location is close to everything (big supermarket and fruit and vegetable market 2 blocks up, walking distance to the terminal and only a few blocks to the colourfull plaza de ponchos market.)
And all this for a good price (private room w own bathroom and towels for 20 dollars).

Pros: big rooms, place is very clean, excellent kitchen which many people socialise in the evenings, toiletrees and towels included, helpful staff, excellent value for money overall.

Cons: bed a little small, a little bit run down and an old building.

We stayed for one night enroute to the Colombian border. Excellent staff in a quirky hostel. Good facilities, comfy bed, great night sleep. Staff were able to help and assist our plans for onward travel.

I’d rate this 4 starts for a hostel. Very basic amenities, though the rooftop terrace with the white rabbit hopping around was a treasure and the decor was funky fun. Rooms clean enough, shower mostly had hot water. Lady at front desk very friendly and helpful. Pretty close to the market.
