Very friendly, welcoming and clean rooms. Owner was very helpful in accommodating last minute tours. Decent breakfast included with the price. One possible improvement is to hand out front door key so you don’t have to wake anyone up by ringing the doorbell

Great and affordable stay

Woke up with the birds music very relax after 3 flying days was perfect.
Breakfast lovely juices and perfect local coffe great strong and at 6 am. Go relax any time in this magic secret garden at this, colonial heritage building. With from my knowledge is hard and expensive.

Amazing

Macondo is a very well-kept Hostal. The inner courtyard is green and beautiful, wifi very fast, and an excellent breakfast was included. The staff was friendly and competent. Booking a hotel online can be hit or miss, but this was a winner.

The rooms were comfortable, the breakfast was delicious, and the garden courtyard was a peaceful and quiet retreat. A friendly staff helped me enjoy my stay in Cuenca. They were knowledgable about the area and happy to assist with suggestions and directions.

Staff very attentive. No hot water in sink. Shower was not quite hot enough. Beautiful garden.

Location is excellent and the owners and staff are very helpful. Room was nicely appointed and the kitchen/dining area well-equipped and comfortable. Excellent value for the money.

Excellent value for money lodging in Cuenca

Macondo is a “hidden” gem and is an excellent value.  I would DEFINITELY stay here again.  The owner, who spoke excellent English, went well beyond the norm to assist with anything I needed, more so than any hotel I stayed at during my 3 weeks in Ecuador.  He offered to personally take my to a Covid test center for example.  Bed is quite comfortable, and since the rooms are set back from the road, it is exceptionally quiet.The garden is a pleasant addition.The self serve Breakfast is simple, but adequate.  The juice included is excellent.  One has access to the kitchen in the afternoon and evenings.Negatives.I stayed three nights and the room wasn’t cleaned during that time.  Maybe I needed to ask?  The last morning I didn’t have hot water.  Not sure why.  It was fine other times.

Pleasantly  Surprised

Very close to tranvia for access to bus terminal for day trips. Lovely garden. Very quiet even though it was in the heart of town.

Good location

I very much enjoyed my stay at Casa Macondo. It is well-located in El Centro and very secure. You can easily walk to the centre of town, and there are lots of shops, taxis, and restaurants nearby. Franz is very helpful and speaks English. My room was comfortable. There is green space in the courtyard, free breakfast, laundry service, and a common kitchen. Some rooms also have kitchens.

Great place to stay in Cuenca

Our stay in Casa Macondo was lovely and peacefull.The house is very beautiful and is allocated on the heart of Cuenca.. few minutes walking to the cathedral and main turistic areas.No doubts we would return here, if we are back to Cuenca
