What a special place and staff. A converted hacienda-type building steps away from the railway station. Great breakfast and comfortable room. Jorge who works there is a sweet accommodating host who greeted is and ensured our comfort. El Molino is definitely a boutique experience.  MuchasGracias gracias Jorge!

A lovely experience

You enter from the road into a large bright courtyard, which is also the breakfast area. We asked for a room on the upper floor, and away from the road, which was very quiet. Although the hotel is not on a busy road, there is regular traffic on the cobbled road (and cobbles are noisy). The room and ensuite were perfect, clean and new. The view from our room at night included one of the churches and the statue of St Peter, which were lit up at night. There are lovely seating areas on each floor and some unusual artefacts and statues. All the staff were very helpful and friendly, and breakfast buffet was generous and really good! 
We were pleased that we decided to stay overnight in Alausi. It is a lovely small town and is wonderfully devoid of tourists in the afternoon, when the train stops running for the day. We had an enjoyable walk around town and a chat with some local schoolchildren who wanted to show us some of the landmarks. The Plaza Principal, just behind the hotel, is beautifully restored and is a great place to sit and watch local life (people and birds).
In the evening, we had one of our best meals in Ecuador at the "Meson del Tren" restaurant near the main road (we reviewed it separately).

Beautiful hotel in a good location

Great hotel in a small town. Renovated older building with really nice newer rooms and bathrooms. One of the best showers we have had in Ecuador. Good breakfast. Nice sitting areas on each floor. Our room had a large window that opened up into the street. Very quite. Staff spoke some English and was able to give us directions for a local Pizza place for vegetarian food.

Great hotel, a few blocks from the train station. Renovated and newer rooms.

Our view of El Molino is somewhat coloured by the fact that it rained heavily the whole time we were there. Breakfast was plentiful, and is served in a covered courtyard, which would be lovely in good weather .Unfortunately, we were getting wet at the buffet as the roof was leaking and there were buckets everywhere! This didn't detract from the charm of the hotel though, it's a lovely building and our room was warm and comfortable, with an excellent shower. Staff were very helpful and friendly...as they were everywhere in Ecuador.

Good choice in a small town

The hotel is nice. It is quiet. The rooms are simple but spacious and clean with warm water. The breakfast in served in the courtyard and is ok. At least one room was accessible to people on wheelchair.

Nice hotel in a small town

This hotel is a real gem, situated close to the centre of Alausi, in a quiet side street.  The outside does not indicate what lies behind the front door.  A courtyard eating area, surrounded by very comfortable rooms and full of intriguing tasteful decorations.  The staff are passionate about the hotel and providing a good service and despite a planned early departure from Alausi, were happy to put on a full breakfast service for us early in the morning.  Alausi has had a major makeover this year and is an attractive town to visit.  This hotel is an excellent place to stay and deserves to be well known and used.

A real gem!

A converted old house in a great location in the centre of town. Easy walking distance to the station. There are a few basic restaurants in town so you won't starve! Lots of steps to reach the rooms - but we had a very comfortable nights sleep. Our room had an outside window to the street but the road noise was not too bad. We suffered a bit from the altitude having come up that day from the coast. Excellent breakfast.
