Cabinas Las Olas was an incredible stay!! My boyfriend and I are already talking about when we want to come back. The rooms are spacious and have everything you need for a solid surf trip. Each of the cabins (or at least most) have a nice little deck with a hammock and some chairs. The rooms had a A/C and daily cleaning service. 

The receptionists worked not only as hotel receptionists, but also has the hotel staff that managed the surf shop, bar tenders, and also restaurant servers. The staff were all very were very kind and friendly. We loved the dynamic of the Cabinas Los Olas. All very down to earth people that just loved to surf. The hotel also has their own private wooden deck that connects to the beach, which made it very convenient to surf. 

Lastly, the hotel also booked our surfing lessons for Avenallas Soul Surf School us, which was a great recommendation as well and connected us to a great instructor, Julio. The hotel also booked us a taxi driver as well to help get leave Avellanas. Overall, highly recommend this stay if you are looking for a great surfing trip and can’t wait to go back and stay at Cabinas Las Olas!!!!

Surf Stay-cation!!!!

While Cabinda las olas is not a luxury hotel, the location and staff make up for it.  I can’t imagine getting a better experience of true Costa Rica.  Went there on a surf trip with my 13 year-old son.  Was only in the room to shower, sleep, and occasionally cool off with the A/C.  
A short walk across an estuary with wildlife all around leads you to a beautiful,long beach.  Surf breaks everywhere.  Met people from all across the USA, Chile, and Europe.  We ate almost every meal at the bar/restaurant, which was great.  People come up from the beach and just hang out at the mellow bar.  
The waiters  are also the bartenders, receptionists, and handymen.  Josue was awesome and shared pics of his fishing and surfing adventures.  Very outgoing and super cool to hang out with.  He, along with Kevin and Ryan, were very helpful with telling us the ins and outs of avellanas.  
The other locals we saw along the beach were extremely warm and nice.
We cannot wait to get back!

Amazing surf trip!

We ate lunch and dinner at the restaurant here. Both meals were delicious. One of the best spicy margaritas I have ever had! Definitely a variety on the menu that would make anyone happy. The covered patio is really pretty. And you can definitely see a lot of wildlife while you were eating.

Great little restaurant!

I stayed at Las Olas for three nights while on a business/leisure trip. It was my first time traveling to Costa Rica and Las Olas was close to my business location. The room was very clean and the shower had great water pressure (always important). Although simple accommodations (no TV), the WIFI was sufficient and the porch and hammock were perfect for resting and enjoying peaceful surroundings. If you love nature, you will enjoy the monkeys that swing from the trees and the iguana's that walk by. The food at the restaurant is a mix of fresh fruit, vegetables and locally caught fish. The Mahi Mahi taco's were the best I've tasted. The staff was very friendly and accommodating and the proximity to the beach was perfect. I would highly recommend Las Olas to anyone looking for nice peaceful place to stay!!

Simply Beautiful and Peaceful!!

My wife and I frequent the bar here.  We are staying nearby.  The drink are far better than many of the more expensive restaurants in the area.  We have had both the pina colada and margarita.  The margaritas are fresh squeezed and nicely presented.  These bartenders are among the best on the beach.

Walking the boardwalk through the mangroves to the beach was a great adventure, dawn, all day and sunset, with birds perching and howler monkeys howling. The beach for walking/swimming and the surfer show for watching were delightful. The accommodation very mellow and peaceful, with no silly TV and no need for AC (at least in August.) Top points for staff.

Beach and nature

Firstly, rental prices are double compared to other places. Secondly, they gave us boards and leashes that had a fair bit of use on them. Returned within the hour as the leash connection kept coming loose. They had us pay $45 to replace the leash. A brand new leash to replace a non functioning old one. Staff has no knowledge on how to repair things, nor any maintenance is done on the equipment. Boss refused to speak to us. $65 for 1 hour rental...

Would give 0 stars if possible.

Do not rent your surf gear here

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights and loved it. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Super quick to respond to requests and very welcoming into the community. The restaurant and bar has great good for a super value. The boardwalk over the mangroves leading to the beach is a blast. The area has so much to offer. From beach walks to Lola's to driving over to Tamarindo, there are many options. Highly recommend!

Beautiful and hospitable

Can't recommend this place enough. The staff were so nice and the service was great.  It's clean, the food is good, the staff is great.  They helped us plan outings, when we were there we had surf lessons, went zip lining, horseback riding, snorkeling, fishing and hiking.  The surfing is great for beginners and medium surfers. Bigger waves in the morning, the afternoon is great for beginners and the bottom is mostly sand and just a few rocks.  The beach is a quick walk down a cool boardwalk (hold on to the little kids though, not dangerous but would be a pain if they went off the boardwalk), and once you get to the beach it's great. Would definitely recommend this place.

Great place, beautiful, relaxing, great staff, clean, good food & service

I hesitate to write this review for concern that this special place will become even more popular!  This is the best spot   In Playa  Avellanos.  Nothing fancy if you’re looking for upscale, but spacious and clean and just a short walk to one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica.  There are several cabanas with a deck and hammock.  The monkeys seem to be attracted to this place as well.  They have a great little restaurant/bar with great food and drinks.  All of the staff and the owner are very friendly and gracious.  We’ve been coming here for about 15 years and Will continue to every time we come to Costa Rica .
