Beautiful inn surrounded by farmland, with classic Quebec food options, well prepared. We ate on a beautiful terrace overlooking the river with the Montmorency Falls in the distance. The wait-staff was attentive and the pace leisurely.

Leisurely dinner in the countryside

This beautiful old farmhouse is within a mile of the bridge to the mainland and offers wonderful western views of the farmland and St Laurence River. It's less than a 15 minute drive to downtown Quebec City, but a world away from the city crowds, noise and traffic. And do not miss taking a tour of the bucolic Ile d"Orleans with its farms, farmstands and local produce and specialty foods.  The buffet breakfast is basic but fresh and the dinners are excellent with knowledgeable waiters.  We also used Les Ancetres as a base to explore the charming towns and parks on the North shore of the St. Laurence where we chanced upon seeing 40,000 migrating Snow Geese.  (Yes, that's forty thousand.)  We will go back to Quebec, and when we do we'll say at Les Ancetres for its perfect location and pastoral charm.

Great hideaway to visit Quebec City and Ile d'Orleans

My partner and I made a last-minute decision to stop at Les Ancestres for dinner on our way back to Quebec after an afternoon sightseeing outside the city.  Despite being dressed in activewear from hiking and being younger than other clientele, we were treated with the same professional courtesy and hospitality as other patrons who arrived more suitably attired.  A delicious meal and excellent service.  We were well attended to despite the arrival of a large bus tour.  
Try to get a seat in the first dining room where you have a view across the river to the city!

Cycle tour

After visiting friends down the road at Sainte-Famille they arranged a room for us at this place which is just opening for the season. The entire upstairs has been renovated to the highest standards. We enjoyed spectacular views of the St. Lawrence River and the Quebec mainland from our balcony. A king size bed with a sitting area and all conveniences. Very private and quiet. A great nights sleep on the beautiful Island of Orleans! Thanks to our friend Frances Drouin.

Experience New France in style !

Because of the age of this Auberge,  you are immediately immersed in the feeling of Quebec in the 1600s. The original part of the building serves as the inn (addition on the side is the restaurant).  It is conveniently located near the bridge.

Gives you a great start to a break on the island

A hotel that combines inn with bistro, old and new, the Ancetres is in an enviable location on the peaceful Ile d’Orleans. The building occupies a magnificent position with sweeping gardens and lawn, overlooking the north channel of the St.Lawrence,  the bridge (the only road link to the mainland), with views of the Montmorency Falls in the distance – spectacular by day or night. Be sure to reserve a room with a view – we chose Mary and Jean 1662.
The building is merger of the ancient and modern with some rooms and the breakfast room in the old section, the rest including the large bistro are in the newer section which extends out onto a large veranda with those great views of the river as a backdrop. This is great for el fresco dining in the summer but, as we discovered, this being Canada the overhead heaters have to go on towards the end of the evening! Understandably this is a very popular restaurant so even if you’re staying I would recommend you ensure you have a table booked for dinner. 
Our room was small, cosy but comfortable with a dressing table, small wardrobe and an adequate bathroom with a good power shower. The bathroom also provided some lovely, locally sourced, soap. Coffee-making facilities were provided. Beware there is no lift. Breakfast although ‘continental’ is fine with an extensive range of jams.  
Service, although friendly, was sometimes patchy, especially in the restaurant where we were forgotten for long periods on the second night.  Also, we had to sleep with the bathroom light on (thank God for solid doors), as no one could fathom out how to switch it off! Despite reporting this annoyance, it was not rectified during our stay.

Ancient and Modern Success

After spending almost two wonderful weeks last August traveling the Quebec province and having a  fantastic time we stopped for one night in isle D'Orleans, on our way to Montreal.
We found the places dated. The rooms looked alright, but barely upgraded. No bathrobes or any other fringes to justify the hefty rate, after tax, of more than $250/ night for a double room!
The breakfast was modest, to say the least; when asking for some more croissants (as the two there left ones were burnt) we were told that it would take 20min to prepare them, in other words, forget it! The breakfast tables were sticky, they need a good cleaning! 
We found this place relaying to much on their old past family history and concentrating too little to bring the facility to today's standards that would justify its current room rates.
