House of Hinwitsa had lots of great native art and art inspired items for sale.   A good selection of just about anything you could want, from traditional masks and small totem’s, to Christmas decorations and clothing. Prices are very reasonable.

Great Art Gallery.

We found this property on Booking.com after we’d decided a big resort was not for us and we wanted to be in the village. It was perfect. We had a large room, with big balcony looking over Tofino harbour and main jetty. We were able to view wildlife in the bay from our bed on some occasions! We saw harbour porpoise, raccoons, bald eagles and otters.  Watching the daily toings and froings from the jetty to the local island settlements was also interesting, great for people watching in an environment that relies on boats and seaplanes to travel, supply and get things done. The owners of Himwitsa are First Nations people who made our stay very welcome and comfortable and gave us anything we needed.  It was also much quieter than I expected given it was right on the harbour. The only reason I gave it a 4 not 5 was because the kitchen area was very small with little room to prepare meals and the cutlery and kitchen utensils could do with a review as they were quite limited. However, it did not hinder us and we loved it.  We bought smoked salmon from the wee fish store down stairs, owned by the family and also, in my view, the art gallery/ shop was one of the best in Tofino and we brought home some lovely souvenirs of our stay there. This was a great local option and I highly recommend it.

Great option for staying in Tofino village with the best views of the harbour!

Lots of amazing and beautiful art and items. Can’t resist and bought a number of items. Inspiring and spiritual pieces. Friendly and helpful staff. Clothing, art pieces, post cards, jewellery, bags, and many other items. Be prepared to spend some money here but it is worth it.

Beautiful First Nations art

I didn’t feel we got our money’s worth. It says ocean view, but really it’s an inlet. It’s not ocean side. You don’t get the crashing waves or the thunderous sounds. Highly overrated in my opinion. We went to the art gallery and I wanted to by a paddle. $1100?? It was literally a paddle with no art on it. Someone took an axe and beat the hell out of a tree and put a big price tag on it. You have to climb up stairs two stories to get to your room. The fish store was awesome though. Great prices and good smoked oysters, and all kinds of salmon. We left after two of our seven days booked and went ocean side.

It’s ok

My wife and I spent a wonderful 9 nights at the Himwitsa Lodge to celebrate our birthdays - which happen to be a few days apart. The suite (No. 5) was very comfortable, extremely well appointed and spotlessly clean and, I have to say, we made excellent use of the private hot tub on our balcony. We received a friendly welcome on arrival and we were quite impressed with the care taken by the staff during these trying times of the Covid pandemic. We found it so nice to be located within walking distance of not only restaurants and the main grocery, but within walking distance of forest and beach trails. Thank you to the staff at Himwitsa for a memorable 80th birthday.

Absolutely incredible!

Our family stayed in the Himwitsa Lodge For two nights last week, while visiting a Tofino for the first time. We absolutely loved our beautiful room and my kids were crowing with joy as soon as we entered it. The view is unbeatable (my favourite part), the beds comfy, lots of space, the fireplace was pretty and the best part was the hot tub on the deck. We enjoyed that many times over the two days, starting and ending our day with a hot soak overlooking the bay. I made some simple meals in the small kitchen, which we ate with our five star view. We saw eagles, enjoyed watching the harbour planes take off a couple times, and enjoyed the peace and quiet. We also enjoyed walking to Tonquin beach, and the bakery, and to get anything we needed. I recommend this place heartily - it was so special. The staff (especially Kathy) were so welcoming and kind. I look forward to coming back!

One of the nicest places I’ve ever been!

Personal opinion, but this has to be one of the best places to stay in Tofino!  We stayed one night a couple of years ago when we visited the island and couldn’t wait to stay again. 
Only minor downside was that we had a side-facing room, so could only part see the water (rear facing rooms definitely better to watch beautiful sunsets and flying boat comings and goings).  Rooms were clean and modern. 

Fantastic 

We stayed here for 3 nights - the view cannot be beat and the location is perfect for walking to other businesses in Tofino. We did not get a suite with a hot tub and that is the only thing I would probably change if we return.

Great location and view

Our stay at this property was nothing short of stellar.  The owners/staff were lovely and very helpful.  We had a room overlooking the marina and the balcony had a hot tub.  The hot tub was clean and enjoyable.  The rooms were clean and very spacious, with vaulted ceilings and rustic decor.  We had a small kitchenette which was great to have breakfasts in.  Loved the local artwork displayed in the room.  Super comfortable - our only complaint is that we didn't stay long enough.

Comfortable, clean with a beautiful view

Really enjoyed the view from the premier room, room #3, book this one, best view and most privacy, especially from the road, and better when using the hot tub on the deck, great for a couple and works well with kids as well. Nice small kitchen, all you really need, we made several meals in and it worked out very well. Two minutes to the largest grocery store, and beer and wine shop across the street.
