The hotel was closed for two years due to Covid. I was there one day after it was reopened! 
This is not a traditional hotel. It is the upper floor of one of the U’s residential buildings. If you are looking for a high-end luxury resort type of experience, try something different. 
But if you want to stay in one of the most beautiful campuses in the world, with youth people buzzing everywhere, an awesome dining hall with food for all tastes, plenty of parking (included in the rate), and endless trails to walk and experience nature in the city, yes, this is your place. 
Rooms are basic but full of little details (nice bathrooms amenities, Krueger coffee-maker, and comfy bed and pillows. 
I really couldn’t find a reason to take away any start, so here you are, a simple and quaint 5 star hotel in one of the most expensive cities in the world

I went to visit someone who was studying at SFU during their Reading Week.  I loved the room, I loved the view, and I thought the service very good. There are great walks right from your doorstep, and their are buses to all parts of the city. There was parking included, the room was made up every day, and  There are not a wide selection of restaurants on top of Burnaby Mountain, but there are some, and the cafeteria breakfast was a very good deal.  But you can get food deliverd. Also you can keep snacks for breakfast or lunch your room.  Overal, a great value.

Very clean, quiet, convenient and inexpensive. Would recommend if staying for your student or just in the area.  Food court below you is open 24/7. Great view from the university to Vancouver and the  Sound.

The campus is lovely -- brutalism of the 1960s is on show, but lots of light and wood and beautiful views. The  students are polite and multicultural. Lots of light eating places and low-cost and decent meals for students, but outsiders welcome. The cost is low, but some distance from cool places is part of the price you pay.
The rooms are very okay, clean, enough space to lie down or do some work. Though students are below, it is quiet. 
Great for someone on a budget or wanting to tour the university.
Disappointed there weren't more eco-friendly measures in the hotel rooms in terms of coffee or towels or soaps. 
Front desk staff available 24/7 and very accommodating. 

The campus is a 45 min bus ride from the city. Lovely location high on a hill. We stayed in a Queen Room. Spacious, comfortable and very clean. The fan in the room was appreciated because rooms don’t have cooling air conditioning and can get hot in summer. Small window allows fresh air flow. Access to college dining room for cheap food. Only negative was the completely inadequate guidance for getting from the bus stop to reception which gets emailed to you when you book. We found ourselves lost, lugging heavy suitcases and facing steps. The response to this by the reception supervisor was completely in-different. So for the benefit of travellers coming by bus, carrying luggage, here is the info you need (this has been given to aforementioned reception supervisor). Step 1: Get off the 95 SFU B-line bus at Transportation Centre Bay 2. Step 2: Walk back about 50 metres from the bus stop, underneath the underpass, where you will find an elevator. Go up to Level 2. Step 3: Turn right out of elevator and immediately right again. Start walking straight ahead for about 300 metres. You will pass the Lorna Davies Sports Complex (on your left) and then a car park (on your right), and finally you will come to the large residential college dining room (on your left). Keep going about 20 metres past the dining room and you’ll come to another elevator. Go down one level and....congratulations, you have made it to reception. Step 4. Congratulate the hotel manager for including these instructions in their email communication to you.

Simon Hotel is on the 8th floor of a student residence building at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Burnaby, a city east of Vancouver. The SFU campus is one of the most unappealing university campuses in Canada. Our room is basic, clean, and quiet. We paid $127 a night including tax, which is a steal in Vancouver standard. One best value staying at Simon Hotel is that it is only a few minutes drive to Burnaby Mountain Park, which offers the best view of Vancouver, Deep Cove, the Burrard Inlet, plus many hiking trails.

This was a cheap option during a recent visit to Vancouver. 
I arrived an hour before check in and the check in staff said first I would be able to check in then quickly reversed this and simply stored my bags for another hour.
The room itself was excellent, though you could hear noise coming through the door due to loud talking going on in the hallway.
This "hotel" is situated on the campus of Simon Fraser University and is about a 50 minute bus ride to the center of Vancouver, however, all doable just allow enough time.
There are very few services on campus, save for a small grocery store quite a hike away so best to get a few things before you arrive to tide you over.
Overall, reasonable budget option in a very expensive city!

Decent room, poor hotel service very annoying check in staff

NOT GOOD! After reading great reviews and seeing the pictures on TripAdvisor, we were shocked at how bad it was. The worst issue was the hum/vibration sound encompassing the whole building. I don’t know if it’s recycled air, air-conditioning for the building, the laundry room or the dining hall next door but it was awful and disruptive to our well-being! We couldn’t even open a window because the sound got much louder. Ironically, I had written to the manager-well before making a reservation- and said “I am worried about humming, motor or vibration noises. (Traffic animal and people sounds do not bother me) Will I be okay there?”. They said it was no problem. 

We were also very disappointed with the view. The photos and many reviews on TripAdvisor noted the great view. What happened? In room SBH 8005 we had a horrible view! (see photo). The bed squeaked and the pillows were so soft it was hard to sit up in bed to read. The towels were hard and scratchy! The shower squealed – I have a recording of it but have to figure out how to post it. We were starving when we arrived and immediately went to the dining hall we had heard so much about. The food looked old and very picked over (this was at 7:15pm). I asked about it and the cashier said that it was the last day of the vendor that had been cooking there and school was closing for a holiday. So the food was awful and old…and vegan offerings were very slim. We paid 12 dollars each anyway and I ate a wilted salad. Overall, we found this lodging to be pretty bad and we were very, very disappointed.
