Nice location: close to the beach and the old town and breakfast has nice selection but lots of negatives unfortunately: some staff members are very grumpy, the water of the swimming pool is dirty and one cannot swim in it (the reason we chose this pousada over others was the swimming pool), the room only gets basic cleaning but the majority of it stays dirty and dusty. Also they charged my card for the whole stay way before we were due to check out not asking us how we wish to pay (cash or card) or whether we wanted to split the costs not to mention the water we had from the fridge which then had to be paid separately ie double credit card charge to me... 

Not the greateast

We really liked this Pousada. It is at the far end of the beach, but it's not a problem to walk to the shop or restaurants. A local bus stops right outside to take you to the centre of Paraty which is quicker than walking, but it's possible to walk as well. You can hire kayaks on the beach and kayak to mangroves which is really fun. The couple who run the pousada are really friendly and the breakfast is incredible, we loved it. We also really loved the hammock on the balcony outside our room. The room was really clean, spacious and relaxing. Perfect! 

Perfext

- they used my card without my authorization: 50% of the total amount was charged after booking, which was fine because I agreed to it when making the reservation on booking.com. Upon check-out I was informed that the rest of the amount had already been charged to the same card and I could not use another means of payment, even though I insisted. They had NO authorization to charge the card the second time! The receptionist was extremely rude, she literarily said she did not care if we did not come back and it was my fault I did not inform her that I was going to use another means of payment! It is a huge problem that the pousada has direct access to the card and can make unauthorized charges!
 - internet was not working and they kept blaming the internet company, while it was working fine in neighboring pousadas 
- breakfast was very bad honestly, I have no idea how this place gets good reviews!
- the receptionist upon check-in did not speak a single word in english! 
- towels were yellow and stained from use (even though they had been washed)

unauthorized use of the credit card!

My wife and I planned a 3 day, 2 night get away to Paraty, RJ. We found a lot of B&Bs online, but I think we got REALLY lucky by finding a room at Vistamar. I have never written a review, but this place is worth it. The rooms are great, everything is super clean, breakfast was delicious, the staff went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of, and the price was great. I feel like I got more than what I paid for, which I have never felt that. It is a 2 or 3 min bus/taxi ride to the historic center or an easy 20 min walk. Every room faces the sea and every room has a balcony with a hammock where we enjoyed our morning quiet-time and coffee. It made for a relaxing morning before we went and explored the city/went on a boat tour (that the owner told us about)/bussed out to the waterfalls. We will go back and we, for sure, will stay at this B&B.

Seriously, the best place to stay in Paraty

This is a lovely pousada! The owners are super nice and helpful and the rooms are clean with good aircon, a comfy bed and hammocks. The TV is not so great but you probably don't come here to watch TV. It is located right on the beach. While the beach is not what I would consider great for laying out, it does have about 6 good beach bars and a fabulous restaurant. I much prefer this to being in the historic center. 
If you do not have a car, take into account that while the bus stop is right in front of the pousada, it only comes around every 1.5 hours and it stops running pretty early in the evening (7 or 7:30pm). Unfortunately, although the historic downtown is only about a 5 minute drive at most, the cost is R$20. The taxis have a flat fee which is absolutely ridiculous. Alternatively, you can walk and it's about 20-25 minutes.
Overall, I highly recommend it for a relaxing vacation!
